    if using 9.04 upgrade your xserver with the one in this ppa #xserver - with no backfill deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/xserver-no-backfill/ubuntu jaunty main and everything is good to go, and do install latest catalyst drivers(9.7).

    I am posting this using a computer where the monitor is kept exactly in front of AC, if you want i can send the pic also ;). As pointed out by another TE buddy, formation of due in room when A/C if off only happen when you keep the room door open allowing humid air to mix with dry cool air...
