Mr. Smart, are you aware of the fact that it's not possible to upgrade graphics
subsystem on 99% of laptops currently available? Which make and model your
machine is? Be as specific as you can, and we may be able to provide some
help.

well your best chance will be to go through dell only.

In usa its quiet easy to upgrade or add GPU to their laptops that support PCI-ex slot. Laptop designs are many times unique and they sell cards specific for their range.

Try emailing dell to see if they can arrange card to you here in India.

You may gind Go6600 / 6800 , ATI mobility X700/X600.9700 for your laptop.

How do you know that there is a PCIe 16x slot on in your laptop? And it's not
possible to upgrade graphics subsystem (no such thing as a graphics card in a
laptop) in case of your laptop. Only a few laptops using MXM modular design
are upgrdeable to some extent. In most cases, the graphics chips like X300 or
X600 are physically soldered onto the system board of the laptop. Hence it's
not possible to upgrade graphics.

In your case, and mind too for I have a ThinkPad R52 with 915G gfx, there isn't
even a provision for a dedicated graphics chip on the board, not even for soldering,
let alone a 16x slot. 16x PCIe slots are for desktops, not laptops.

nVIDIA, however, is looking forward to change all this with the new MXM technology.
Until then, I'm sorry to say that you'll have to live with the onboard GMA900
graphics accelerator, which is still pretty good when compared with Extreme2
graphics integrated 855 chipset in older laptops.

Are you sure D610 (Not the expansion bay , which has half -height pci slot) has a "16 bit Pci -EXpress slot" ????

Kindly reconfirm with Dell before we even think of suggesting a gfx card for the laptop.

Nope, you are slightly off target there, what your dell has is, Intel 915GM, which features integrated graphics core and a PCI Express interface, not a dedicated pci-x graphics slot as you seem to think you have(required if you intend to buy a mobility pcix gpu) :(

^ Not even ATI mobility or nVIDIA Go solutions come as cards in case of laptops.
These chips are actually soldered to the system board in most cases. Only a
few gaming oriented laptops like Dell XPS high-end models and probably 8600
series machines come with real slots.
