Actually me thinks you r admin in the prev xp and prev xp was installed on NTFS partition, your acct was password protected, so you can't access your prev my document....I think you should better make a small raw partition install linux there ( I installed linux suci to solve the similar...

I am also facing this problem I connect my laptop to my desktop by a RJ45 cable I want to set up a connection by winxp home or office network but the connection fails........I also tried to set up an wireless connection with my friend's laptop but I face similar problem there

Insert Installation CD .........Make an unformatted partion.......ubuntu will automatically look for raw partition
