I think C2D is an overkill for word/email/browsing/occasional gaming. Maybe you could go with an E5200/E5300. Also, you did not mention any gfx card. Are you looking for onboard solutions?

I guess the difference would be marginal. If you look at the charts for FEAR here, they seem to be evenly poised. So you might as well go with one which gives you better aftersales.

Erm, I think for someone in college its very easy to get illusioned by this notion. If you always wanted to do an MBA then why are you wasting and extra year doing your engineering. You could go for other 3 year courses which give you exposure to comp. sciences if thats all you wanted to do.
