Acer has finally launched their budget Iconia B1 tablet in India, and it is really a pretty value proposition considering all that it offers under the hood. Coming with a dual core Mediatek MTK 8317T chipset, we are already wowed and reminded at the same time that this is a budget tablet. Even the display resolution is a notch above those cheap WVGA (800*480) displays to (1024*600) which is pretty good considering the price. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is the icing on the cake, but the real sour puss is the limiting 512 MB of RAM. We really wish Acer had put 1 GB of RAM and made this the complete tablet that we all wanted.
Acer Iconia B1

The Acer Iconia B1 packs a new Mediatek MTK 8317T chipset which is an enhanced MT 6577 dual core chipset. What changes is the speed most probably. The chipset is pretty powerful beating the ST-Ericsson Novathor U8500 chipset handily and matching Qualcomm's Snapdragon MSM8930 chipset as well. Impressive for a device this cheap.

Acer Iconia B1 Specifications

  • Mediatek MTK 8317T chipset
  • 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A9 dual core CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 7" WSVGA (1024*600 pixels) LCD display
  • 0.3 MP VGA front facing video call camera
  • 8 GB of internal storage
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2,710 mAh Li-Po battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS

Internal storage is pretty good at 8 GB. The battery capacity is tad on the lower side, but then again you're asking too much from a branded as well as cheap priced product. Expect 4 hours of heavy and continuous usage before the battery cries and then dies on you. The highlight of the device is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
