Amazon has finally announced its much-awaited smartphone, the Fire Phone.

It will be available starting July 25th on AT&T (US) at a price of $199 (with a two-year contract). Not sure when it'll release in India. Probably next year, or the one after that.

The most touted feature of this phone are its 4 front-facing cameras, which tracks your head and adjusts the screen accordingly, or does a myriad of other actions, to create a 3D-like dynamic effect.

It looks like a solid piece of hardware, and with Amazon's excellent marketing tactics, I'm sure it'll grab a lot of eyeballs, and hopefully customers too.

Specifications:
  • Quad-core 2.2GHz processor
  • Adremo 330 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4.7-inch IPS 1,280 x 720 retina display with 315 pixels-per-inch, dynamic contrast and circular polarizer for outdoor use (the rumored 3D display turns out to be a software-driven dynamic perspective effect as opposed to true 3D)
  • Gorilla Glass 3 scratch-resistant screen with rubber frame
  • 13MP rear-facing camera with F2.0 five element lens (giving it good low-light capability) and optical stabilization, and can capture full HD video at 30FPS
  • Four 120-degree field-of-view front-facing cameras with IR illumination for head tracking for the dynamic perspective feature
  • Sensors include: Dynamic Perspective sensor system with invisible infrared illumination, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, barometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor
  • Fire OS 3.5
  • Dual-stereo speakers
  • Tangle-free flat cabled headphones
  • 2400mAh battery offering 22 hours of talk time, up to 285 hours of standby, up to 11 hours of video playback, and up to 65 hours of audio playback.

Maybe they did not wanted to take that big a risk so went with a capable enough smartphone. If it does well, there might be a powerful and a low end version too.

  • Quad core 2.2GHz processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32/64GB storage
  • 13MP f/2.0 rear shooter, OIS – instant access button, even with the screen off
  • Four front-facing cameras for dynamic perspective and a wider field of view
  • Unlimited photo storage (cloud)
  • Dual stereo speakers
  • Ships with non-tangle headphones with flat cable and magnetic buds
  • Glass back
  • Aluminum Buttons
  • Nine-band LTE
  • $199 on-contract, AT&T Only
So yeah, Fire Phone.

This phone features all the goodies you'd expect from an Amazon device – X-Ray, Second Screen, Prime streaming content, Whispersync, Mayday, and the like. It's an Amazon phone designed for Amazon content.

A quick overview makes it looks like a very obvious vehicle for Amazon and ofc intended at driving its sales.

Def gonna redefine how to hook into people's psyche for the impulse buying.
