Amazon files SEC report, misinterpreted as shutting down operations in India

Amazon was very well aware of these restrictions.
Cloudtail came under govt scanner (you must see partnership details of cloudtail).
Now they are whining, over their own fiasco.
They certainly can not run a business showing childish behaviour.

I dont know whether to feel sad or happy?

Their service was decent, although always second best to Flipkart.

id always rate amazon service higher then fk.. .. and im a fk first subscriber.. lol.. but anyway.. this is very sad news indeed.. i think even fk might be doing their share of under table payments to make sure amazon doesn't survive in india.. after all they got a clean chit under the same investigation .. makes u wonder doesn't it. its gonna hurt indian customers at the end..

I had read somewhere that Narayan murthy is also invested in cloudtail which is related to amazon (like wsretail is to flipkart).

It will actually strengthen indian ecommerce giants meaning more revenue staying in india.Sure its a loss for consumers

werent amazon buying and selling from indian distry's aswell.. ne way they all work with the same logic.. hope they come to some agreement and sort this out ..

Only a fool would really think investing in India is a good idea. The govt and the people are too unpredictable. Even if you are doing well, you never know when the greedy eyes of the govt and the people would make you see everything that you worked for taken away. There is no fixed interpretation of the laws and a quick reinterpretation by govt can make you close shop. Nokia factory in TN suffered heavily because Indian govt had tax deficit and they thought on a whim it would be nice to make Nokia contribute for it.

Amazon cannot sell on its own name due to the FDI rules. So they have only have warehouses and related services which sellers can lease. But the govt wants to collect taxes from Amazon as if its is a retailer. So Amazon is in a place where they are restricted from selling, but still have to pay taxes for selling stuff.

The disclosure comes amid reports of Amazon facing tax issues with local authorities in Karnataka.
This is still a pending issue , had posted an article earlier that showed that the govt was misinterpreting the laws.

Which means they are just hassling amazon. for what ?

Another stupid headline by a news portal just to grab some eyeballs.
Cos worldover give their risks assessment in annual reports/ipo red herring prospectus which in turn are filed with respective stock exchanges. this is common practice throughout the world.
For ex: RIL writes in their annual report about the concern over dripping gas output. so does that means it will shut shop. similarly vodafone too must have filed in UK it's concern about the tax issue in India, so are they going to shut shop.
Very lame attempt by the newsportal to create FUD

They wont close the shop as it is esp. when investment in India is going to be in dollars and that too billions of them.
