Well, finally the day has come when I get to buy my very first laptop!!!

So, as this is a special, I want extensive research to be done before i settle down for nothing but the best possible.

Requirements and constraints as follows:

Budget: Rs. 50,000/- (+/- 2-3k, not more)

Preferred Brands: Sony, Dell. (Want to avoid Acer and HP)

Usage: In order of preference:

  1. Designing Applications like Dreamweaver,Flash,Photoshop.
  2. Pretty intense Gaming. (Not a fanatic though)
  3. College Work like Presentations,Browsing etc.(I am in F.Y. B.Tech )
  4. 3-D Rendering like Maya. (In future maybe)

Features: In order of preference:

  1. Atleast 2-years Warranty.
  2. Light weight/Mobility.
  3. Good looks and build quality.
  4. Should not heat up too much.
  5. Backlit keyboard a must.

Options:

1. Dell Studio 15

Pros: Perfectly in budget with P8700. (Maybe even i5 if i get discount.)
Cons: Graphic Card not future proof. Question mark over their A.S.S.

2. Sony Vaio CS.

Pros: Awesome build quality and looks. Better Graphics.
Cons: Have to stretch budget a bit too much unless i can find reasonable discounts.

Note: I may have to order up to 3 Studio 15 laptops as a result of which i might get a bulk offer if anyone here can help.

Thanks in advance, bring in your comments!! :eek:hyeah:

Increase your budget little more and go for Studio 15 with i7 eyes closed.

Since you seem to do 3D designing and rendering stuff CPU is really important IMO.
Furthermore having more cores is especially going to benefit you in this particular scenario hence the quad core suggestion.

i7(720QM) will also be helpful in gaming when it turbo boosts to 2.8ghz i guess.

The only con is, as you yourself suggested the graphics card is not good enough.

One thing to remember is that in india you cannot get best of both worlds in single package(as of now) :).

Regarding warranty someone is offering extended warranty for dell products at 50% discount in hot deals section.

Peace~

The first one i.e. lenovo model is 1000$ but its the cheapest i7 lappy you can find and its paired with the GT240M. Browse the specs ( with the weight and warranty ) and reviews carefully.
