One thing people fail to realize with musical instruments is that the initial learning phase is critical, and bad learned technique is very hard or impossible to correct later on. So the typical indian attitude of 'we'll get a cheap one for learning and the buy a better one later' doesn't work here at all, since a poorly made guitar WILL kill whatever chance you may have had of being a half decent guitarist someday. The yamaha's are typically decent models and though they're more expensive in india as compared to say the middle east, they should serve as a good learning tool as well as a long term instrument. a couple decades ago, even the givsons used to be decent quality, but these days the low end market is quite inadequate. Not very sure about other current low-end models, but granadas are kinda ok, in the 3-5k range.
