Best Air purifier ?

I am curious to know how this will work? Guess you will have to install one in each window to purify the air entering your home.

no, i have them in my office. they look like a small box that sucks in air and throws out cleaner air. just need windows closed

Am also looking for an air purifier. There are two options in sub 10k range: Mi air 2 and Smart Air Original/Cannon (Which are simply hepa filters and carbon attached to fan). SAO comes cheap for just Hepa (4k, and it has 1k refills) but its CADR is smaller. Smart Air Cannon is near Mi(9k cost, higher CADR and about equal refills if you add both HEPA and carbon filter). Mi also has some smart features. Repairs, faults, reliability could also be issues with Mi.. https://www.techinasia.com/xiaomis-smart-air-purifier-grave-quality-problems-inspection-finds

I want to know all 3s CADR in normal(not too much noise) use. Also Mi's low power seems suspicious. Here's a comparison of air purifiers - http://www.myhealthbeijing.com/chin...air-purifiers-under-1000-rmb-my-test-results/

I know indoor air pollution is a major concern especially in Delhi.
Personally as a Engineer with elective in Air Pollution these air purifier are gimmick.Mathematically speaking they are incapable of cleaning the whole air inside the room considering low air flow rate.
Air purifier conventionally work great with HVAC

My 2 cents-
Don't waste 10k on these products. If I may suggest an alternative - get plants in your apartment.
Kitchen - Get spices
Living Room - Flowers
Bedroom - Fengshui Cactus.

These are cheap.Have dual purpose and effective.

^ Good points. In addition to these install metal or plastic net filters on windows that can be removed and cleaned. Imo, these stationary plastic nets are very efficient in reducing the amount of dust and dirt coming inside the house.

+1 looking for an air purifier, even if it does nothing even in a small room, still i prefer having something over nothing

Indoor plants are a much better alternative than these cheap options flooding the market. I personally believe that inside pollution issue can only be tackled properly by an HVAC system with proper ducting and HEPA filters tackling the problem at the entry point.

My friend has Mi air purifier and there's actually an difference you can feel when its turned on. Are you sure they're gimmick? He has asthma and his window being close to road, he used to suffer. Now he's happy.
Only thing is we're not sure what to do if xiaomi stops selling air filters

See I couldn't find any results these purifier obtained nor do I know the environmentalist they consulted to manufacture them.So I cannot comment on their effectiveness.

But here's what I can suggest you to do-
Get four saplings and place it into illuminated corners of your home.
Water them regularly for 15 days.

Check these sites -
http://www.consciouslifestylemag.com/air-purifying-plants-clean-air/

http://nurserylive.com/top-10-air-purifying-house-plants

Your total cost may be 700-900 bucks

If you don't feel comfortable buy the purifier.Put those saplings in your balcony or terrace and voila you have a small beautiful garden.

Tests are done for PM 2.5 and other stuff using those testers like laser egg. An example is that site I linked previously, and you can get other reviews. So unless the whole thing till news outlets and Chinese Government recommendations, and e-commerce site reviews is a scam it should help remove the dangerous particles. Of course you'd have to nearly shut the windows but I'm not sure how much. Maybe like split AC vs Window AC with proper ducting?

Now I'm not completely sure of the info on air purifiers, but right now it seems a necessity, at least for my mother. I'd like to know more about the plants if there is proper data. I do have plants near all windows though. Also, ever since Diwali I feel the smoke completely even when inside the big parks of Delhi. The day before I could at least breath properly. Currently using an n95 mask for myself.

Placebo effect?

There should be some device to test air quality, maybe spm levels inside the room. This way both purifiers and plants effects can be checked...[DOUBLEPOST=1478362251][/DOUBLEPOST]And how do plants purify air? As in remove spm. We all know they take CO2 and output O2 but spm is the biggest problem right now.

FYI philips sends their engineer with pollution test machine in gurgaon when you buy theirs. my colleague got it tested few days back and since she has over 20 plant in her apartment the pollution level was 180- 230 in the rooms. palm , money plant and a few more are said to help. she still ordered 2 purifiers. even in my office i can feel the dirty air outisde but in office with thee 2 filters it feels much better. No placebo for sure, they do help cleaning up the air.

http://www.amazon.in/Laser-Egg-Air-Quality-Monitor/dp/B01CD3ARPE You can use some thing like this. Here are some tests I already linked - http://www.myhealthbeijing.com/chin...air-purifiers-under-1000-rmb-my-test-results/
As you can see old Mi is equal to Philips etc and Smart Air Original is lesser.

where can i buy one online?
Mi purifier? You can get one at flipkart. Most are available on Amazon. You can get Smart air from their site or I guess Amazon.

Also can't find proper studies for pollution effects on healthy people except WHO saying it causes more premature deaths. Here's a read if anyone's interested- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4549691/ . Don't know where people on TV saying it's like smoking 40 packs a day are getting their data from. I should be getting a purifier though, at least for my mother. I'll see if I will personally make do with a mask or buy a purifier.

Most newer maruti cars have a place for Hepa filter behind the glove box. German made Hepa Filters are available at the service stations. Somehow company never put it as standard. It costs about Rs 450.
