How much of a notebook PC can you get when you're on a budget? We took a batch of low-priced laptops out for a run to find out. The exercise brings to mind the Latin phrase, caveat emptor, or buyer beware. Sometimes you can get a lot for a little. And sometimes you get what you pay for -- and nothing more. The best price on the most expensive laptop in this group of six was $850, while the lowest price was $599, and we found that within that price range, features and performance can vary widely.
