Celkon is a growing company from the southern part of India which has been selling feature phones for a while now (and they surely are popular here down south). Last year, we did see Celkon launch some touchscreen models based on Android OS, but they failed to make any dent in the market. Well, this year Celkon is back with it's new launch. Dubbed the Celkon Signature HD A119, this smartphone packs a 5 inch HD display. However, it packs a pretty weak dual core chipset only. Meanwhile the other phones in it's price range (13K - 15K) all pack quad core chipsets, which puts the Celkon Signature HD A119 behind them already. Read on for more.
Celkon Signature HD A119

The Celkon Signature HD A119 does pack a decent specifications sheet. Although the CPU is a dual core, it's of the more powerful ARM Cortex A9 architecture. The GPU might be a short coming, a relatively weak PowerVR SGX531 for the high resolution HD display. Casual games should run without hitches.

Celkon Signature HD A119 Specifications

  • Mediatek MT6577 chipset
  • 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 5″ HD (1280 x 720) display
  • Dual SIM (3G + 2G)
  • 12 MP AF camera sensor, LED flash
  • 3 MP front camera
  • 4 GB of internal storage
  • expandable upto 32 GB via micro SD card
  • 2,100 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

A 12 MP rear camera and 3 MP front camera are definitely some of the main attractions. That combined with 1 GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean certainly start adding more value and justify the somewhat high Rs. 13,499 pricing. We wish the chipset were the new Mediatek MT 6589 quad core, and all would be bliss. Even then, it's a great new start for Celkon with their Signature HD A119.
