ok so my nephew who is studying there is looking to replace his macbook 2010 (will be used as a secondary machine) with either of these. if u can find me something better from any site in the uk at a similar or slightly flexible price 50/100 gbp ... do post a link below, thanks ..

ps / don't recommend macs, he already has one, will only buy windows - wants to game

I would say go with the Gigabyte, even though I have never used one. Reasons : SSD, More GPU RAM, plus it should be easier to carry.
 
Advantages with Gigabyte: HDD slots, very useful.
Not really an advantage as Asus have ultrabay in its Blueray drive. So you can swap it with SSD.
IMO, go to a local store where you have the chance to fell them out by your hand before buying and thn buy what you like more.
