'Fireball' malware on the loose - India a big target

Read up on this yesterday, seems it's not so dangerous until someone exploits the backdoors - its just a matter of time.

However, this is not like WannaCry, which was capable of screwing your computer even if you did nothing, but equally dangerous if you get infected, as it is capable of even installing trojans and keyloggers on your computers, which can cause financial harm.

However, you can prevent this by ensuring you don't install any unwanted software. Additionally, download the softwares needed from verified sites only.

Looks like one of the ways it is spread is via "freeware" software like video download/encoders and similar software which bundles "ad-ware" that is malicious (browser hijacking, search home page etc) if I remember correctly from reading about this.

Yep. basically, it piggybacks on other software installs. Any and all ad supported setups need to be checked.

Too much sneaky sh!t out there. People need to validate every click they make and not just go next, next, next, finish.
