Less than 10K First Smartphone for Mom

Hello everyone! I'm looking to gift my mom a smartphone. It would be her first smartphone and her basic needs revolve around calling, social networking and a little multimedia. Motorola Defy seemed a good fit since its also water and dust resistant(her previous phone was spoilt by water).

A: 4.5-7.5K

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?
A: Bar

3. Q: Preferred display type?
A: SAMOLED, IPS LCD, TFT

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
A: Samsung, Sony, Nokia, LG

5. Q: Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?
A: Touchscreen

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.
A: Requires a decent camera.. preferred with video calling option but not mandatory.

7. Q: Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A: Android or Windows Phone 8.

8. Q: Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).
A: 3G, Wi-Fi

9. Q: What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?
A: Browsing, Social Networking, Casual Games, Multimedia, Camera.

10. Q: Any other requirements?
A: Decent battery life

11. Q: If you have already considered a phone then please mention the model.
A: Motorola Defy for about 7k from eBay US, HTC Explorer for 5.5k, Xperia Tipo - 6.3k

I would suggest the Nokia Asha 501 OR the Defy. Both are rugged phones, with the Defy more than the Asha. I would not recommend a WP phone unless calls, SMS, music and emails are the only requirment.. Also, have a look at the Lenovo A660.
 
@Sumit05 - Lumia 520 is a bit on the higher side of the budget. I can shell out max 8k for a phone right now.
@vivek.krishnan - Asha 201 has a very small display and does not seem attractive from a smartphone point of view. Also, Lenovo A660 is not available in the indian market right now. I'm not sure if it would be wise to import a lenovo phone.
PS - any other good phones that can be bought from the US at this price point right now? Any dual core phones will be more than welcome! :)
