I need advice.. :)
need graphics card for: Graphics design, video editing may be 3d rendering later. But primarily for stuff related to this. No gaming.. softwares to be run: adobe suite, video editing softwares, corel, 3d max, maya.

Current specs -
amd 5500+ - 2.5ghz dual core
mobo - M2NPV-VM
ram 4 gb - dual channel - 533 mhz
hdd 500 gb 7200 rpm
psu - cooler master 480
monitor - viewsonic 21" + 24"(full HD)

need suggestions..?? cos its for work, so no budgetary restrictions.. need a card which shall not say no to anything its fed with..

if you guys think this CPU n mobo is not good for what i want to do, then please suggest about that too..

but i thought may be getting a dedicated graphics card shall solve my issue of slow graphics performance of my pc..

thanks..

If no gaming is to be done,
instead of getting a Radeon or a Geforce card..get a Nvidia Quadro instead..
these are made for this purpose..

Get the one which suits in your budget,

FX1800 is a good mid range card for the purpose..

Budget = 6 - 6.5k MAX.

Current rig Specs:
CPU : C2D E4500
Motherboard : Intel D946GZis
RAM : 3GB DDR2 667MHz
Monitor : SAMSUNG Sync Master 17" @ 1280 x 720, BUT Going to get 32"HDTV

I've 450W Circle PSU.

I will be using it for Casual Gaming and To view HD Movies On HDTV so HDMI is strongly recommended.

Game Resolution will be 1280 x 720p

Both Nvidia/ATI will work.

Get a HD5670..
but with it, get a new PSU also...
Something like a gigabyte superb 460w..

HD5670 can run on non branded PSU's as well, the power consumption is very less..
But theres no point on keeping your rig at a risk..:)

Nope, dont run it on that PSU..
It is extreme power i guess..very less efficient..

Get a corsair VX450 for around 4k..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

well fx1800 is way too costly.. could you suggest something a bit cheaper..

I shall perhaps be getting it from UK.. so the UK price for nvidia Quadro fx1800 is Rs. 29,680/- I don't want to go beyond 15k at max....

n yes no gaming at all.. just dedicated for graphics design and stuff related to this.. 3d, web design, 2d, video editing.. etc.. :)

Add in some more..around 0.5k..
and get a HD 5670..
will be futureproof..and will run all the latest games..

The next best card to the FX 1800 is the Fx 1700..which is also priced similar..
so your next option is FX 580...its the top card in entry level series..

Just wanted to tell...i dont think FX 1800 is for 29k...it is listed at amazon near around $400..

I have a 19 inch 1400*900 resolution!

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

mobo just need to have PCI Ex2 slot in it, no matter what type ram it supports

here is the link for amazon UK

i can get this card from UK.. 1 Pond = Rs 70.. so this is coming out to be 29K.. i will check out some other sites in UK..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

How much power consumption will the HD5670 make?, cuz I cant upgrade my PSU but I have a spare PSU of 300W of my old PC.

Can I connect my PC with 2 PSU, 1 for PC and other one specially for GFX card?

IIRC, 5670 draws power from the mobo and not separately so you can't do that. Would you risk running you petrol car on diesel if you did not have the money to fill petrol ?

I recommend you to add in 1k more and get a HD 5770..It is a good card for its price..
Its also the latest..so will be future proof as well..
Get a card from india only...getting it from outside maybe a bit cheaper..but it will be a lot of pain if something goes wrong with it..
You will have to ship it again on your own expense to get it repaired..:)

The Graphic card ram has nothing to do with the system ram..
The graphic card may have DDR5 memory while the system has DDR2...
no need to worry..
HD 5670 has quite low power consumption..but still a Gigabyte superb 460 is recommended..

If this is a costly option to you..i mean both the FX 1800 and 1700..
You will have to settle on FX 580..
Do also try to get your hands on a second hand one..will be cheaper..:)

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Is the Sapphire 4670 512 MB DDR3 with Arctic cooling a good option with a 22" LCD monitor running at 1680X1050 native resolution ?

I am getting the same at a good price.

I am having a 4400+ Dual Core AMD CPU & a 400W SMPS VIP Gold & 4 GB DDR2 667 Transcend RAM

I want it mainly for online business applications and some occasional gaming

The onboard graphics of my mobo geforce 6100 cannot cope up with the business applications also at that resolution.

Thanks for advising

You can get a HD5670 512MB GDDR5 ~ 5.2k which is better than the HD4670 and should do fine for occasional gaming at 1680X1050.

AFAIK The 5670 requires external power connector which i want to avoid in view of the 400W only capacity of my VIP Gold SMPS
