Hey Guys,

I was looking to buy 50-100 pack spindle of DVDs and I noticed that even Moserbaer nowadays is costing more than 1400 bucks. I remember getting them for 11-12 per piece just few months back. Sony also was 12-13 and even that is around the same price as Moserbaer. Dvdstoredelhi seems to have Verbatim TY's at 590 for 50 pack here in TE itself (http://www.techenclave.com/topic/487708-super-deals-on-verbatim-dvdr-16x-47gb-made-in-japan) which would be awesome, except that the thread isn't updated since last year.

Here are a few results I came across in ebay:

Dvdstoredelhi has listed both Verbatim +R and -R's at 650 + shipping on ebay which would work out to be the same as Sony and Moserbaer prices

Anyone know of the prices in Lamington Road?

Also, can anyone suggest the difference between moserbaer pro, silver and sterling. Platinum's seem to be the premium ones and quite expensive.

The prices were on the upswing from the last year itself.

Since then i had started to invest in hard disks. In long term they turn out to be cheap.

But do you use them for data archival? I mean have 6TB of Hard Drive space which is more than enough for me for the content that I use. However, for the content that I want to store for later, which I wont be using for a few months (even years), DVD's turn out to the best.

yesi agree.

in that case invest in blue rays.

6k for the drive and some the brs are available @ under 100 if bought in bulk.

But then again, the price per GB doesnt justify the extra cost. 100 bucks for 25 GB works to be 4 Rs. per GB. In normal DVD's, even if you count 14 bucks per DVD its roughly 3 Rs. / GB. Not to mention the 6k investment for the writer. And also the cheap quality of media compared to good quality Verbatims.

slightly OT

but if you are going to need the DVD only once in some years as such why not get those national DVDs?

they cost about 9 per piece in lamington.

last time when i got one 50 pack got it for375.( so effective less than 8 rs.)

their quality is at par with the moser baers if you preserve them in spindles.

I suppose that makes sense. I'll wait a few days for Dvdstoredelhi to reply in his thread regarding the prices otherwise its national

For 4 bucks difference a piece isn't it worth getting good quality? I've seen some cheap a$$ dvds fail in a year. I'm not exactly loaded but i would rather pay ~600 for TYs than 375 for national etc.

And what's happened to dvdstoredelhi? He updated his samsung microsd price so he hasn't completely disappeared...

#julian national DVDs are manufactured by moser baer only sans their brand label.

so what comes out of the factory is the same with moser baers.

Really? I though national was one of those crap brands like rainbow etc. Princo used to be decent when they first came out but later even they were crap. i'm talking about 4-5 years ago though...

Anyway, i've had a few moser baers fail on me, some with physically visible warping/distortion in the recording layer itself, which is why i decided to switch to MIJ verbs.
