Storage Solutions HDD Problem:Help Needed

Hi ,
I m having problems with my WD Cavier green 1tb drive. The drive takes good time to boot the OS(My OS drive is 'C').After OS has started there is little hang problem. Checked "MY COMPUTER" my whole 'D' drive data is gone.If i try to access it,it says format the drive.Tried accessing the drive through cmd got this error "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)".In the diskmgmt it says raw disk also I not able to check disk for errors.

Is there anyway good software(paid or unpaid) to get my data back , all my e-books were in that drive...
Tell me some tests to check my whole drive for errors...

hey, do you have a ubuntu/xubuntu live cd? If not get one. Because when I had a similar, partition accessing problem. I used a live cd to back up all the data. And when I back up the whole thing, the partition somehow was usable again, without formatting. That HDD is going for RMA now. Try this and post up.

I don't know about WD, but Seagate has SeaTools. SeaTools were really useful for fixing errors for sometime at least.
