HTC will be revealing its next flagship smartphone dubbed M7 later this month. The handset was rumored to pack a 13MP camera sensor at the rear.

Now, pocket-lint has reported that the camera will use the term Ultrapixels instead of Megapixels.

The camera will be made up of three 4.3MP sensor layers which will produce a combined image. Three 4.3MP sensors add up to 13MP, but the sensor picks one pixel from each layer and makes one final pixel. Similar technique is used by Sigma in Foveon X3 sensor.

HTC has also teased in an infographic titled "A Brief History Of Photography", that it will "kick off a new sound and camera experience in 2013". This further strengthens the rumors of ultrapixel being used in the M7.

The new sound experience is reportedly a pair of stereo speakers, better noise cancelling for calls, and a new feature that will get lyrics while playing music.

The HTC M7 is expected to be unveiled at a press event on 19th Feb.
