iPhone 5 to be slimmer and offer a larger screen with a higher PPI

I think 4" or 3.7" screen are best for smartphones. I personally don't like the phones having bigger screens than that. They just don't satisfy the smartphone factor IMHO. I need something, which I can hold in my palms and can operate whole area of it with single hand.

I don't understand how will Apple maintain the resolution problem if this rumour is indeed true. iPhone 3GS -> iPhone 4 the resolution was quadrupled to maintain app compatiblity.

So logically, Apple would not like to break 2 things -

1. app compatiblity i.e. resolution

2. standard set by retina display

So in order to keep the ppi at least as high as iPhone 4 and increase screen size, will Apple quadruple the resolution again? 1920x1280 on 4"

Anything above 4" is insane. 3.5" - 3.7" iPhone/Lumia devices are still perfect.

Here is Dustin Curtis' article on 3.5": http://dcurt.is/2011/10/03/3-point-5-inches/

Here is the Verge article on 4" screen speculation: http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/9/2937265/the-4-inch-iphone-5

Here is an interesting take on 3.84" screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio possibility: http://www.therussiansusedapencil.com/post/21210935439/the-4-inch-iphone

All these are speculations and we need to wait until Apple unveils iPhone 5 (at WWDC or sometime later).

To all those complaining that Apple needs to make it's devices cheap: Well, cheap products are cheap. There are cheaper duplicates of Chinese phones if those keep you happy.

To all those who embrace Samsung phones, well let's have a discussion after 1 year when you guys still get no software updates and you still keep buying new Samsung products.

Adios.

3.5 inch phones are ridiculously small to handle.

Videos, surfing is way better on Galaxy S2. Iphone 4 is such a downer after using S2.

If you are having problems typing with one hand there is a feature called Swype. Works like a charm on bigger screens.

Waiting eagerly for iPhone 5 though to see if its enticing enough.

IMO, 3.5" is way too small especially after one is used to 4.3" & 4.65" screen phones. I don't think Apple is ever going to make a phone with a display that big. I am pretty sure I will be sticking with Android at least for another few years.

I think the iPhone is more ergonomic to use. Its small form factor is comfortable and easy.

I would like to think that Apple might release two models, keeping the 3.5 form factor and a larger 4.2 maybe.

Just speculation though.

A few years ago, a phone not capable of one handed operation was doomed by critics. Look at the state now. Post iPhone world has different rules.

OK. So after trying to search, you cannot find a direct reference link for something you claimed and then you are asking me to Google it?

"First off, it is public knowledge that Steve Jobs firmly believed that 3.5 inches was the perfect screen size for the iPhone"

http://leeglenn.net/iphone-5-could-receive-4g-lte-and-bigger-4-3-inch-display/

"Under Steve Jobs, Apple had always maintained that the 3.5-inch display size on the iPhone was the optimum."

Pointless for them to do so when they are already managing to sell so many millions of those units. Plus, a price reduction might also hit the 'Premium' tag

.

Ofcourse there is no reason, otherwise it would have been done.

That would have been something for the good of the public, not too sure whether the same would hold for Apple itself.

It's just YOU prefer 4.3" screen. Not everyone, not women and my grandparents. There is always an optimal size that the manufacturer decides when making phones. If you go by the logic bigger is better, then 5" screens are better than 4" and 6" inch would be better than 5". It's insane and doesn't apply to mobile universe.

Do you think, Apple can't make a 4" screen earlier itself. Do you know how hard it is to pack 326ppi with 640x960 retina display and fit it on a 3.5" screen when compared to making lack luster displays with 4" screens and call it "SUPER AMOLED" (Read Galaxy Nexus S, the flagship phone introduced when iPhone 4 was released). Galaxy Nexus S had 233 ppi, 4" and a 480x800 resolution. Don't tell me you all went WOW for that and bought it for big screen. Then, what happened? Does the phone have ICS update? The same phone beat iPhone 4 in specs wise in your opinion right? Does Samsung care about it's users and provide an update? NO. While iPhone 3GS owners still enjoy iOS 5.x updates. Beat that.
