10. If you have already considered a phone, then please mention the model

A: Nokia 3.1

Mi phones are one of the highest selling brands in india. I myself have been using them since the r2, r3s and now using redmi 4.

besides, we have no problem giving out biometric to our govt. which is the riskiest entity that could use it against us, so why would anyone think twice about giving data to china? or facebook/google (USA) etc. for that matter? It's a great big mess we're all in right now and we're just lucky no one has really exploited any of it yet.

USA always has a problem with Chinese phones. That's why xiaomi doesn't even sell their phones in the US.

We are discussing here why the US govt issued an advisory against honor, which they would have done against this forums favourite Advertisement provider (lol buy mi phone, get advertisements free) aka Xiaomi

Oh, and just going to leave these here

Its a battle between asus and rn5 note pro. Its your choice altogether to either go with miui os or stock Android os. Both phones are good and comparison thrown shows both identical with just 18-20 kind of win win situations between them.
Many people are now opting for stock os and asus offers one with huge battery and a breezing experience with equally powerful ram 6gb that too at a very affordable price.
Few people around me own it and they are loving it, some being ex miui users.

Just curious, why do you always skip over the Honor 8X.

I personally think it's better than the Asus.

Has a (much) better camera, looks and build quality

Dont know anybody around with Honor brand but yes its reviews and build & specs are impressive too. Worth considering if you can go for it..

Unlike the others it comes with android one, no colorOS, EMUI, ZenUI, etc It's not too big either which was OP's requirement and 3GB is sufficient for moms IMO.
Nothing I personally like in the sub 10k segment from the Chinese but the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 is set to launch on the 11th and then there's Honor 10 Lite too (which is just a rebranded 8x). If you're looking for vfm that's where it is.
Deal with the Chinese companies is that they just keep moving specs into lower price brackets into their sub brands over time, OPPO becomes Vivo becomes Realme and Huawei becomes Honor, the cpu eventually trickles down from the mid range to the budget phones, if you're not in a hurry wait for SD660 or its equivalent to hit lower prices.
