Java book recommendation

I already know C and C++. I am looking for a book to grasp basics of core java. I don't need a book which goes too deep.

I just need a book which gives basics and can be finished quickly. I would be reading it on my own so would prefer book which has simple language and explains things in basic manner

Bumping up an old thread after a long time.

I know C and a bit of C++. I need to learn core JAVA and that too, quickly.
Someone suggested that I should read the SCJP 6 Study guide by Kathy Sierra & Bates.
Is it recommended for a beginner to start learning from that book? Or should I read Head First Java or some other book?
