This laptop is basically for my mom who uses MS word, powerpoint, web surfing and facebook. but she is not tech savy so I would prefer to get something which is niggle free and kickass service(preferable onsite)

I have shortlisted this toshiba model http://www.flipkart.com/toshiba-satellite-c665-c665-p5012-laptop/p/itmd6twvgwdyugyb?pid=COMD6TWVS9RVZVFH&_l=pH_5QZ2WcoVa60_JUFCM4A--&_r=uhYPT8FD_t92dl4HzcT5SQ--&ref=c6342d3a-0e6f-4002-97d5-595519c17c80

mainly because flipkart mentions that it provides onsite warranty but this model no is not in this list http://www.toshiba-india.com/laptop/onsite-service-program.html#ann

( C665 C665-P5010) is there but not C665 C665-P5012

Can anyone confirm about this?

I confirmed about warranty by calling their CC. Onsite warranty is available for this model. But is Toshiba good enough? If it's not I won't mind spending 2K more to get HP 430

IMO Asus X43SJ-VX509D is better anyday than lenovo.

You also get gt520MX which though is an entry level GPU but more than enough for home needs. and what else you can ask in 23k ?

Does it support optimus?

No. But you don't need it I guess because the 520MX is not such powerful GPU to hog battery life. Although had there been optimus, battery life would for sure have been incremented by around half n hr (max).

following is the information present abt 520MX at [ http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-520M.43104.0.html ] - "Optimus is supported (if implemented by the manufacturer) for automatic switching to the processor graphics card to save power" ... Now it depends on the ASUS whether they have implemented it on X43SJ series or not ... { just hpoing that they have done it, for obv reason

I know that fact, but asked it from my friend who owns the same. Although he is not kinda geek so he may have told wrong.

Samsung NP300 series is very VFM. Sleek looks, 1000+ charge battery, matte screen and reasonable config (2nd gen Pentium with HD3000) for general office work.

Thanks for your replies guys. I finally booked this http://www.flipkart....63-e416762abf20

For my own usage I would have gone with asus but my mom needs hassle free laptop and most importantly reliability. I just felt HP 430 wth onboard graphics will turn out to be more reliable .

I booked on saturday of expected date of delivery is thursday.

On a side note, can I purchase aftermarket 4gb stick and upgrade without voiding warranty?
