Looking for a laptop for home use.

Primary purpose - web surfing (up to 8 tabs open at a time), taking tests, videos (1080p), office apps.

Saw a few :
1. Dell Vostro 3446
2. Dell Vostro 3546
3. Fujitsu A544
4. Asus multiple models

Need to buy in a weeks time, max.

Pl. suggest...

Yeah, but for sometime I would need the DVD drive. Don't want to use a SSD for general purpose work. Till such time, whether the extra RAM will help? Kiddo opens a dozen tabs and Chrome chomps RAM.

Another idea came up, what if I add the 4GB RAM and convert it to a RAM Drive?! That will leave 4GB RAM and a 4GB RAM drive to speed-up things. Anyone has done that??

Build quality is reasonable for the price.

It has 15.6" screen, so not exactly portable. What exactly do you mean by "carry around"? Within a house, a campus, what distance? You need to be more specific.

If you are using a vehicle, it is OK. But it is big, so carrying around for few hours will be tiring. Extreme example: like holding a glass of water, one can do it for 5 min, but not for hours together.

For portability, better look for 14" or lower. Lenovo Flex 2 14 & 15 are lighter, but without the optical drive. You can check out those too.
