  • What's your Budget? (41k - 50k)
  • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (Video Editing - Premier Pro/Casual Gaming)
  • What size and weight considerations do you have? 15" will do quite nicely.
  • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? Apple. I'll also be mostly be based out of Pune, so a brand with good service in and around.
  • Any other considerations? I intend to try and use it for 5 years or so... So good build quality. I would prefer a Full HD screen but not a deal breaker. (Processor, RAM, GPU > Display)

Since I am just getting into video-editing, if my requirements are wrong, correction for that too would be appreciated.

Currently looking at https://paytm.com/shop/p/dell-inspi...ux-2-gb-black-LAPDELL-INSPIROSHOP22186F8A4D0C

But a little suspicious cos of the description. Will the warranty be covered?

If you're looking to edit videos, trust me you need a 1080p screen resolution. 1366 X 768 resolution is a PITA to edit on. Also, the 'U' variant processors are supposed to be energy efficient and are not as capable as desktop i7s. If you are planning to use this laptop for 5 years, I suggest looking for a 1080p/non-U variant. I bought and reviewed the Asus X550LD laptop recently which has similar specs.

Just read the Asus X550LD review. And I agree with what you said.

Yea but that is the thing... A non-U variant processor and a 1080p resolution seems really difficult to come at a normal price. The ones I keep seeing cost upwards of 65k! So this is the best compromise I could come up with. An okay display with an okay-ish processor. If you do know of a better deal out there, please do let me know...

This would have been good but it is sold out.

On another note, I do have a friend coming from Singapore on Sunday. But once again, there doesn't seem to be too much of a difference in the variants of the laptops offered at those price points.

It was not a FULL HD screen. The listing had a few more other mistakes that was cleared when the service tag was looked into.

Hmm... About the Dell XPS L501x. How soon are we talking about? And what price will you be expecting?

I am expecting 25K (35K if 256GB Samsung Pro (MLC) SSD + 8GB RAM upgraded). But I can't really tell you how soon. Currently I am deciding on my next laptop and I am very much confused. Read this and join the party: https://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/suggest-me-a-laptop.173890/

to be frank, it has also some issues, which I need to get fixed. First, the screen hinge wasn't properly aligned when last time it was opened (fault at service guy), so there is a small opening at the back of the laptop, which can be fixed only if opened, which I am not comfortable doing on own. Secondly speakers giving cracking sound, but it's difficult to debug since I use Hackintosh. Can't really tell if it's a hardware or software problem.

So it may take some time. I suggest you to look at Dell 7000 Series. They are FHD IPS. 58K on PayTM - https://paytm.com/shop/p/dell-inspi...l-silver-CMPLXLAPDELL-INSPIRODUMM20256C0335BD

I've read that... So while the display is important, all the people I asked also emphasized heavily on the processor. And that one has a weak processor... I checked it on the benchmarks page on notebook check.

So according to the people I've asked for video editing Processor & RAM are paramount to get the software running smoothly. While the display would be a HUGE plus, I am looking at powerful processors now.

(BTW if you are looking to get one from the US, check out http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/flex-series/) Flex 3 has released. I just found out.
