hi,

check out this article about laptops.

You have all heard of National Brand laptop's on the market today; such as Alienware/Dell, HP, Toshiba, Compaq and Sony. It may be surprising but none of these companies actually manufacture their own laptop's. These National Brand companies purchase their laptops from an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) such as Clevo, Compal, Asus, MSI, Quanta, Wistron, Mitac, Arima and Inventec. The ODM's design & manufacture the machine and sell it to these National Brand companies as a barebones system. The National Brand companies then customize the system with a Processors, Hard Drives, Ram, DVD Drive, Wireless, Bluetooth along with other internal accessories, then install a Microsoft Operating System and label it and market it as their own. Most of these National Brand companies force you to purchase a Microsoft Operating System regardless if you have one already or not.

What's new about that? Everyone knows how the system works. Taiwanese firms manufacture the actual stuff and other firms just assemble and sell it to ya. It's not just laptops but pretty much every other electronic gadget. Most people think Corsair makes great PSUs when they are actually manufactured by Seasonic. SE didn't make the Xperia, HTC did. Apple doesn't make the iPod, someone else in China does.

i thought few ppl knew about it.:ashamed: :p

Thats true and thats why i was ok with people buying zenith director plus cos its vfm awesome performance and end of the day same stuff which u will find in acer dell hp and other.

yup OEM, ODM n re-branding is a common phenomenon.

@aMAN.pitbull: yes this does imply they are better than their re-branded counterparts..

For instance, Sony Viao comprises manily of Asus hardware. Sony just makes cosmetic changes (viaos look damn sexy), some variations in batteries used, etc. and hence increases the price tag by a huge amt as theyve added their huge chunk of margin to selling price.

Whereas Asus laptops are made by asus and sold by asus so no middle men and hence total VFM..

Same goes for MSI.. Now u know y MSI laptops of such awesome configs are so damn cheap.

Same shit every industry :p Better get used to it now...

Hint: Try and find out what other brand TV's are manufactured by a certain well known brand.

That is an amazing fact....another amazing fact is the concept of Dell theory of conflict prevention.."No two countries that are both part of a major global supply chain, like Dell’s, will ever fight a war against each other as long as they are both part of the same global supply chain"
cool...isnt it

same thing is happening everywhere...it's just that people don't know.
in auto sector , Suzuki is going gaga about their DDiS engine has won international award in Europe, while it was a Fiat engine, which Suzuki has licensed through GM.

The DDiS engine has won the ‘International Engine of the Year Award*’ in Europe.

Maruti Swift - The Technology

But do they mention that the engine is designed and developed by FIAT and some critical parts are made by BOSCH.

The customer is not cheated as far as money is concerned, but I think they should not lie.

At the end of the day, you get a (first) truely brilliant diesel engine in a Maruti car. That's enough for me.
