Later this year, Google is expected to unveil to the world a new handset in the popular series of Nexus smartphones, one that will allegedly sport the name of Nexus 6, and which could be the last device in the series.
No official confirmation on the existence of this device has been provided as of now, but there is one thing that appears to be certain at the moment, namely the fact that LG won’t build it.

According to draadbreuk.nl, LG's Communications Director Ken Hong has unveiled the fact that Google hasn’t approached the company for the building of the new Nexus phone as of now, something that should have already happened.

In a recent interview, he has said that Google did contact LG in due time for the building of Nexus 5, but that the same has not happened so far this year, which suggests that the company won’t be making the phone.

"I know at least not yet. Normally, we were informed. That can mean two things. Either I got ignored, or we simply won't be making [the Nexus 6]," he has said.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the Nexus 6 will never arrive on the market, but that Google might have decided to work with another vendor for its release. Some rumors claim that HTC might have been Internet giant’s vendor of choice this year.

Apparently, LG is fine with the idea that another vendor will release the device, as it didn’t have the easiest times bringing to the market the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 in 2012 and last year, respectively.

"If you can develop a Google phone, that gives credibility. But money you earn is not easy, and you become too dependent on Google," Ken Hong has reportedly said.

Moreover, he has explained that Google was the one to decide how many Nexus 5 units were to be built, and that this is why the phone saw a series of stock issues at launch.

"Google determines how many phones are to be made, and we do that. If it is stated that LG produces too few Nexus phones, the media then is simply incorrect. We get asked, we deliver," he has added.

What remains to be seen at the moment is which handset vendor out there has been selected to build the new Nexus phone, as PhoneArena notes. We'll also have to wait and see whether this will be the last device in the series.

Google was said earlier this year to plan on replacing the Nexus series with a new Silver lineup, which would include high-end smartphones capable of offering the same stock Android experience that the current family of phones can deliver.
