Macbook --- Mac Leopard .. AVI to MP3

Hi guys,
New to this form and new to Mac.
Leopard is really rocking....
But i have few questions...
Is there any software (free ) that can do the following in a mac

1) avi to mp3 converter ( yes, video to audio ) coz video drain my ipod batteries

2) text to audio converter

I would prefer free softwares or if not plz suugest any torrent file from where i can download such softwares ( is asking questions reg Torrents allowed here? )

No iMovie also does the conversion... Don't ask me how!!

Anyways, wherez the text that you want to output as sound... If its a pdf then already Adobe does it.. and if its online website, then Opera can read it out to you!!
