Close on the heals of the microsoft antispyware products, micosoft is now all set to bring out another of its much anticipated and maybe a "killer" antivirus product very soon.
Already the antispyware released by microsoft has got ravishing reviews with prooven technology by Giant software. Antivirus offering could be the next big step.
While the deatils are as yet closely guarded the tentative date for the public beta release has been fixed at 11th jan 2005. the release comes almost exactly a year and a half after Microsoft bought a Romanian antivirus firm, GeCAD--a move that set off speculation that the giant was going to turn its attention to dominating the antivirus market.
According to the leaked information coming out, the antivirus is more of a augmentation to the existing antiviruses rather than a replacement. Sources at microsoft however have quoted that at some time in future microsoft will bring out a standalone antivirus offering to compete with others.(and that will be like extendia softwares antivirus as many analysts believe.)
The impact of the same is already being felt as today most of the antivrus firms shares have crashed in US stock markets. While it may be bad news for the other comapnies and virus writers, this is probably the best new year gift that microsoft could have given to its customers.
