Linux Microsoft's plans for Linux on Windows!

A Linux developer -- he prefers to remain anonymous -- has told NewsForge he was recently contacted by Microsoft and invited to a job interview.

He accepted, and during the interview he asked the obvious question: Why was Microsoft interested in hiring someone with strong Linux skills? The reply was that Microsoft is working on an emulator that will allow Windows users to run Unix.

Considering that Microsoft already has an emulator that will do just that, it's not crystal clear exactly what the monopoly has in mind for Linux on its desktop and/or server products. Microsoft purchased its Virtual PC product from Connectix early last year.

Hmm..Microsoft does a lot of Linux related work. For example, Services for Unix (SFU) is developed exclusively in Hyd - and it involves a lot of Linux work. Plus - they do a lot of interop stuff too. So don't read too much into this

Hmm.. well.. Microsoft's technique is this. Windows should be able to run "every" other program. But other OSs shouldn't run any of its programs ("copyright"/ License blah blah)..

Yep but we already have Virtual PC and VMWare for that
thought Virtual PC don't really support Linux that well...

All we need now is something from Microsoft that'll us to run MacOS. :)
