Mobile at 5K levels - best value for money

1. Q: Budget?

A: about 5k

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?

A: Bar, moving parts NOT preferred

3. Q: Preferred display type?

A: I believe I don't really have much choice at this price. The larger - the better.

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.

A: Nokia is preferable since they seem to have better battery as well as lesser hardware software issues.

5. Q: Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?

A: Buttons! QWERTY > 2-ABC > Touchscreen is last preference.

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.

A: don't care. All phones come with basic cam these days.

7. Q: Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).

A: Anything that is less buggy, and doesn't bring the phone to its knees.

8. Q: Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).

A: 3G and EDGE

9. Q: What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?

A: CALLs - need good quality audio as well as signal reception.

Multimedia - songs and videos

Internet access.

Email? you mean something like "Mini-outlook" - would be a good option.

10. Q: Any other requirements?

A: Not really. Shouldn't look bland (yeah I am asking for too much at 5K bracket - but, heh, I am an Indian!)

Sharp edges/vertices and thin form factor preferred

11. Q: If you have already considered a phone then please mention the model.

A: Nokia Asha series looks fine. Only prob is that it looks too rounded!

So ppl, can you please help me in shortlisting the phones for consideration.

There is a HUGE list of phones when I open flipkart/letsbuy/landmarkonthenet etc at this price range.

I have checked the Nokia / Samsung / SE / Motorola websites too - but still in a fix about pros and cons. Also I don't have any idea about REAL usability issues faced - where this forum can actually help a lot.

As far as i remember, C series is the jack of all trade and x series is based on music rich features.

But Nokia c5 will do nicely for you.

If u can upgrade the budget, get it. You wont regret it.

OK, looks like there has to be an upgrade in Budget.

The phone has to have a mail client.

for Lotus Notes mail server.

After reading around I make out that I would require a Smart phone.

That means budget increase

Anything available till 10K?

(I know Nokia C5 is a smart phone) [GAH! There is something available called C5-03 too, which is quite different

Will Androids be able to connect to Lotus notes server?

Here are some options you could consider:

1. Nokia E5(Symbian):

Its available on Flipkart at arnd 9k

2. HTC Chacha(Android):

Available at Flipkart for 12k

C5-00 is a very nice phone for around 7k. It is a full fledged smartphone but The screen is quite small + No wifi.

Avoid C5-03. This one is the resistive touchscreen model and If u are going that way then better android models are available..

Also the default email client in both the above phones although perfectlt adequate by themselves , are a bit clunky to use...
