Disciple
I need a laptop within 20-30K which needs to have the following:

  1. 15" Screen (Should not kill the eye's. Should have good daytime visibility. Resolution not big an issue)
  2. Should come with atleast: C2D or Athlon X2 or i3
  3. Atleast: 2GB x 1 DDR2 (I would love DDR3 if price permits though!!!)
  4. Integrated MHD graphics
  5. Webcam (preferably 2MP)
  6. Good keyboard & touchpad (I would very happy if it came with a numpad)
  7. I would prefer if it came with Free DOS!!!
  8. Good warranty.

Any suggestions guys. I would appreciate if you could mention the street price as well.

Go for the new Dell Inspiron 15 with Core i3(2.13ghz)

2gb 1066mhz ddr3 ram,250gb hard disk,15.6"screen.Its the best for ur budget.

I checked out the Dellâ„¢ Inspiron 15 New Laptop (S541201IN8) on the Dell website. It's coming to around 36K inclusive of all along with W7 HP and 1 year Complete Care. Dell doesn't sell it without OS.

A Dell rep gave me another config: S541013IN8 - Dell Inspiron(TM) 1545 Laptop( N-series) which comes with factory installed DOS. It also comes with 15.6" 720p WLED, C2D T6600, 3GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, Intel 4500HD, Wifi & Bth. It comes with only 1 year hardware warranty (no Complete Care) and no carry case. With that it's coming to 34K. With complete cover & backpack it comes to 36K without OS.

Go for Dellâ„¢ Inspiron 15 New Laptop (S541201IN8) if you can slightly up your budget. Its the most VFM laptop and future proof too. I'd not suggest to invest on C2D ones where you are getting Core i3 one's with slight up your in your budget.

how about the msi cr 400x?

or if u prefer amd--u can try the acer 5542/5542g

The CR400x is an amazing VFM machine but unfortunately it's got a 14.1" screen instead of 15.6".

The Acer models are pretty good too.

Actually I had made a small shortlist:

  1. Dellâ„¢ Inspiron 15 New Laptop (S541201IN8) - W7 HB & 1 Year CC - 36K (around)
  2. Lenovo G550 - 295894Q - DOS - 30K flat
  3. Acer 5738Z, 5738, 5536, 5740 - 27-35K
  4. MSI CR400 (only issue is the 14" screen)
  5. CQ40-616TU (again issue is the 14" screen)

Can someone suggest any one of the models above or anything else in the same price range?

avoid lenovo and compaq/hp.

lenovo- bcoz i have seen keyboards and trackpads failing alarmingly with the g550/g450 series and lenovo after sales service isn't good.there are issues with the windows 7 drivers--the webcam doesn't work the sound card fails to work after 2 days of usage(the sound card driver has to be reinstalled).wifi doesn't work.

hp/compaq- bcoz of terrible after sales service and poor build quality.

try the acer 5542/g comes with ati 4570(512mb)15.6 inches and the m500 caspian or something cpu -- and is priced at 30-35k. http://www.gadgetfolder.com/acer-aspire-5542-new-notebook-with-amd-turion-ii.html

if you get the one with a m600 cpu nothing beats it-- its a damn fast cpu.

You can get it from the retail stores.
Delta peripherals has Dell laptops with DOS.
You can get a inspiron 14 with a Core i-3 330M with a back pack and also you can choose any color for rs.29,800.
This laptop comes with DOS.

Thanks for the advice dude but even if I let go of the Complete Cover option still it comes to 35K with shipping. The quote from the Dell site is attached below. One has to add Rs.900 delivery charges to the total. There are just two changes I have made. Windows 7 HP 64 bit (no point taking HB with this config.) and I have added the cheapest "backpack" option. No Dell Inspiron's dont come with the free backpack option.
I think the Lenovo G550 still wins hands down. At around 29K it's around 6K cheaper. Anyone using the G550 model I mentioned above give an idea of how the laptop is?
