Graphic Cards Most VFM PSU for 2 x 512MB GTS 250s in SLI

I need suggestions for the most VFM PSU please since I'm really on a tight budget.

Here is my config:

Proc: C2D E6600 @ 2.89Ghz (on stock intel cooler)
CPU Cooler: None at the moment but I might wanna go for something like a SCCF in the distant future.
Motherboard: Asus P5N32 e SLI
Video: None at the moment. Was using a 8600GT before it went for RMA. Whatever GPU I go for I wanna keep the option for adding another GPU later in way of SLI.

EDIT: I just bought a XFX GTS250 512MB cards yesterday and will get another one in the next few months time.

Fans:
  • 1 x Logisys 120mm dual UV CCFL ring fan.
  • 1 x 80mm Logisys UV reactive case fan.
  • 2 x 80mm el cheepo Chinese LED fans that came with the cabby.
Memory: 4 x 2GB OCZ Platinum PC8500 DDR2

Hard Drives:
  • 2 x Seagate 500 GB (S-ata)
  • 1 x Seagate 250 GB (Sata)
  • 1 x Hitachi 80GB (Sata)
Optical Device: Sony CRX230 16x DVD R/W (P-ata)
Mouse: Logitech MX 518 usb
Keyboard: Logitech Basic Multimedia usb
Monitor: Samsung 940 BW. (runs out of it's own power source)

Current Power Source: Zebronics Platinum 500W (doesn't have PCIe power connector)

Thanks a ton in advance guys.

"most VFM PSU please"
GlacialPower AL650AA @ 4.8k

Processor will be a huge bottleneck, overclock it past 3Ghz or so (should be possible w/o increasing voltage), push more once you get better cooling.
PS: You're better off upgrading your CPU and/or other components or going with a more powerful single GPU.

After few months you will get a card which is roughly faster than 2 gts 250 combined which consumes half the power of those 2 units.

IMO you should have grabbed the 260 and be satisfied with it. As if is you have an antibiotic case. With 2 GCs heat dissipated from the case will increase- and lets not forget about the power consumption and the feasibility option.

If you are still for for the sli bandwagong: Corsair vx550 onwards or maybe glacialtech 650AA or antec ea650w.

-I dont want to advertise but since u are asking where to get------>lynx

The biggest bottleneck: Samsung 940BW - A 19" monitor with max res of 1440x900.

U wont gain more than 5% with sli :p

Upgrade Path:

Glacial Power 650AA - 4.8k

Dell 22" Monitor - 10.5k

Enjoy :hap2:

There are just 3 versions of the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 Core Edition available with XFX unlike the 9800GT which has like a dozen versions.

GeForce® 250 GTS 1024MB DDR3 Core Edition (GS-250X-ZDFC)
GeForce® 250 GTS 512MB DDR3 Core Edition (GS-250X-YDFC)
GeForce® 250 GTS 512MB DDR3 Core Edition (GS-250X-YDFU)

Mine is the XFX GeForce® 250 GTS 512MB DDR3 Core Edition (GS-250X-YDFC).

Apparantly, I couldnt find any differences between the GS-250X-YDFC and the GS-250X-YDFU.

1st thoughts about the Glacial Power is that the product looks like attention has been given to quality. The manual is pretty comprehensive. The quality of cables is very good. The 20+4 pin power connector is the only sleeved cable. All the connectors are of very good quality. There are ample amount of connectors available for everything. Just one thought that the 2nd PCIe x16 6+2 pin power connector could be a little too short. I haven't tried connecting a 2nd card till now so can't tell. My thought is that it could have been a tad longer. Apart from that everything else is very good at 1st look. And it runs very very quite.

The GTS 250 starts with a whirring sound during POST, shutting down and while restarting which can take time getting used to. But that sound disappears exactly the way it starts soon after POST completes. The card runs very quite. I haven't done any temps as of now though. Together, the GP 650 + the GTS runs very quite. The card comes with Vista drivers which I installed last night. But then I downloaded the Windows 7 drivers (186.18_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_english_whql) last night and installed them this morning. Currently downloading my copy of 3D Mark Vantage from Futuremark's website that comes free with the card.

hey i got the same PSU recently too :) was running my XFX GTX 260 with no problems. Had some problem with the card so sent it for RMA, and i wanted to upgrade the card and decided to go with the GTS250 in sli :) could you tell me how much you paid for the card? Thanks :)

I bought it from Rashi for Rs.8025/- + 4% tax

^^ Whats the warranty on the PSU? 2 years?

Am considering this PSU as well but just 2 years warranty doesnt say a lot about the product.

hey sabre when will you be getting another GTS 250? I just upgraded my GTX 260 with Zotac GTS 250 SLI. My system keeps shutting down when i start a game :( wonder if the PSU is getting overloaded or something so i wanted to check if you get the same problem since we have the same cards and PSU. Its so damn frustrating, all the drivers installed fine and i enabled SLI in the Nvidia Control panel and when i start a game after a few seconds my system shuts down, no BSOD etc. I had the same problem with my GTX 260 but i fixed it my reinstalling the drivers from scratch. I tested both cards individually and they work fine. Its really frustrating, tried everything. Will try reinstalling the OS and checking my ram :( any Ideas besides the PSU?
