Motherboard + Processor + RAM needed.. Budget 15k (+/- 1k)

Q: What is your budget?

15k (+/- 1k)

Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)

A:-AMD Athlon II X4 640

Biostar TA 790 GX motherboard

2x2 GB Kingston RAM (DDR2)

AOC F22 21.5-inch Monitor

Altec Lansing MX 5021 Speakers

Logitech Cordless Mk320 kit

Cooler Master Extreme Plus 500 W PSU

Palit GTX 260 Core 216 sonic edition

Samsung 1 TB + Samsung 500 GB HDD

Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)

All except motherboard, processor and RAM

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model)

A:- I want to buy a processor that supports AES encryption instruction set (AES-NI). The thing is that my external HDD is encrypted with Truecrypt and it is giving me low performance with AMD Athlon X4 processor. I've decided for Intel Core i5 2400 processor or upcoming AMD Fusion APU. No idea about motherboard though. No need of multi-gpu setup. But if budget permits it, then its welcome.

Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

A: Yes. But I may upgrade to a DX 11 based graphics card. Although this card is giving me awesome performance :p

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)

A:- Himachal Pradesh or Chandigarh.

No online purchase

Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market?

A:- No.

Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware?

A:- Running & experimenting with GNU/Linux distros.

Gaming.

Transcoding videos for my mobile

Downloading

Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.

A :personally, I don't like Intel :D. Have been with AMD for a long, long time. But AMD has poor support of graphics card on Linux. So, it's a mixed bag :D

Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?

A:- First Person Shooters.

Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage?

A: Gaming - 1600x900, 720p

Desktop - Full HD

Q: Are you looking to overclock?

A:- Maybe.

Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?

A:- Arch Linux (primary)

Windows 7 (only for gaming)

Motherboard for 4.7k!! Are you sure? If yes then its a steal :p.. BTW, it's a microATX right? And, what's the cheapest USB 3.0 based motherboard for this platform?

PSU is working fine since 2 years.. I don't need to change it..

^^ Aircraft engine working fine for two years, doesn't insure it against a flame-out today. Same holds out for your PSU.

MSI H67MA-E35

Sorry. Price is down to 4.6k now :p This mobo has USB 3.0 and is the cheapest H67 mobo with USB 3.0

Holy crap.. it's a steal.. that said.. will be getting this config next month.. Now I need to find a murga for my processor+mobo+RAM & maybe PSU

BTW, which PSU do you guys recommend. I'll never implement a multi-gpu setup btw..

Corsair VX450 would suffice but if you would upgrade your GPU in the future then buy something with more stamina like Corsair VX550 ;)

Will VX450 be enough to run GTX 560 or should I get any other model.. I'll be getting GTX560 once Battlefield 3 is out if it is not playable on 720p on my current GTX 260 sonic edition, only then..

A Corsair VX450W would do the job. It is certainly recommended you change your current PSU.
+1 to that, this rig needs something which has the reliance tag attached to it, else stuff might really go awry.

And yes I'd probably take Hades' recommendation into consideration too, if you have the GPU plans.

:cool2:

In that case, you definitely need a VX550W at the very least.
