hello,
I have laptop lenovo G40-45 80E10084IN
i wanted to upgrade ram from 4gb to 8gb have 2 slots of memory
my hardware vendor says this laptop has 1333mhz ram

i tried with kingston 4gb 1600 and 1333 mhz but Performance dies.
so wanted to know how much max memory i can upgrade upto.
lenovo service center says it supports 8GB max.on websites it says 16GB.

lenovo guy says it uses DDR3L type of Ram and DDR3L ram with same frequency will support it.

my samsung ram modue says

4gb 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-13-B4
M471B5173EB0-YK0

i dont know is it 800mhz ram ?

so wanted suggestions which ram to go for that will work together.
and what happens to performance if i purchase 8gb ram with current 4GB.

thanks,
Prashant

It seems, single slot can take max 8GB. Hence 16GB overall. If you are having only one stick or RAM, it supports up to 1600MHz. But if you populate both slots, it would be limited to 1333MHz.

Hence maximum possible capacity/frequency combination would be;
Slot 1: 8GB 1600MHz, Slot 2: Empty
Slot 1 and slot 2: 8GB 1333MHz in each

Your current RAM is 4GB 1600MHz.

Did it feel slower, or did you run a benchmark? If so, how much slower was it?

I've got a G50-45 (80E3GYIN) and I used it with 4GB+8GB Kingston 1600MHz DDR3L RAM, and it worked fine, and gave a decent performance boost. Afterwards I realised I didn't need more than 8GB, and gave the original 4GB RAM away. You can tell the difference when you move from 4 GB to 12GB, but for my usage scenario, I couldn't tell the difference between 8GB and 12GB. I chose to buy an 8GB stick, instead of a 4GB stick so that in case of any compatibility issues, I'd have at worst 8GB.
I also replaced my HDD with an SSD, and it improved both battery life (a little) and performance (a lot).
