Nokia has announced its first Android tablet at the Slush 2014 keynote today. Dubbed the Nokia N1, the tablet (which is being built by Foxconn licensing the Nokia name) comes with a 7.9-inch screen and 64-bit 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Z3580 CPU. The software side of things include Nokia's Z Launcher atop Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Nokia N1 will be priced at an aggressive $249.

Specs include a 2048 x 1536 resolution, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, 8 MP camera at the back and 5 MP shooter at the front, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO, stereo speakers and 5,300 mAh battery. The Nokia N1 is constructed out of aluminium and has a thickness of only 6.9mm. The device also features the reversible micro-USB 2.0 Type C connector.

Nokia will be licensing its name to Foxconn, who will be handling the engineering, marketing and sales of the Nokia N1:

In addition to the Nokia brand, Nokia is licensing the industrial design, Z Launcher software layer and IP on a running royalty basis to the OEM partner. The OEM partner is responsible for full business execution, from engineering and sales to customer care, including liabilities and warranty costs, inbound IP and software licensing and contractual agreements with 3rd parties.

China will be getting the tablet first in time for the Chinese New Year (February 19, 2015), and will be followed by a launch in Russia and select European markets later. Head to the official website for all the details.

Nokia just announced Nokia N1, the company’s first Android tablet through brand-licensing agreement with the OEM partner. It has aluminium unibody build, has a 7.9-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display at 326 ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, similar to the Xiaomi Mi Pad, powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor and runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with Nokia Z Launcher on the top, but it is not clear if this would have Google Play. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The design of the tablet just looks like the iPad Mini. It has 0.5W stereo speakers on the bottom and has Wolfson WM8958E audio codec support for enhanced audio output.

Apple and Microsoft will not sue each other,as Bill Gates long time ago invested a lot of money in Apple. Moreover this looks similar to Ipad mini i guess coz foxconn is the manufacturer.

Still I think its shameful for companies Nokia & Lenovo to copy Apple designs. Even when they can do better.

^^ Actually they are not. Chinese markets had tablet like devices running Win CE, Linux and later Android (after it was released) in various sizes and form factors since 2004/2005. iPad and iPad Mini are technically costlier rip off's of the devices that were already in the Chinese market more than 5 years before Apple made them.

Most of these designs are so commonplace that nobody cares about patenting them. Apple on the other hand is used to taking commonly existing designs from markets like china and gets patents on them. Most of these Apple design patents are just as stupid as Amazon's parent on photography against white background.

Its just like Edison's Light bulb patent. 17 different innovators have worked on and demonstrated electric light bulbs before Edison did. Some of them even applied for patents. Its just that Edison managed to get the patent awarded to him. It still doesn't make the other 17 innovators and the people who followed up on their work rip off's of Edison's work. In fact, Edison was apparently a prolific patent troll who stole others hard work by racing to get patents on their ideas and Steve Jobs and Apple are not much different.

Change the title ... :) It's not a 2K display ... A 2K display consists of 2560x1440 pixels, whereas the N1 has a 2048x1536 ...

^^ Any display with a horizontal or vertical resolution of 2k or more is a 2k display.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution

2048 x 1546 is a 2k resolution.
2560 x 1440 is also a 2k display (2.5k display to be more accurate).
1920 x 1080 is also considered a 2k display though it falls short

Similarly any display with horizontal or vertical resolution of 4k is a 4k display.
3840 x 2160 is also considered a 4k display though it falls short.

Is it gonna have Here Maps with offline voice navigation ? If yes then I can see this to be a hit.
Here maps with offline is already available for Android. You can get it from nokia here download site (the app is not in the play store yet). It is in beta but works pretty well. I have it running on Android lollipop. So no reason why you cant install it on a tablet running android
