Please suggest me peripherals to order from US

Hi everyone,

My father is coming to India from US and I need help selecting the right peripherals for my PC as I have lost touch with latest peripherals nad technology.

My Current PC config is Windows XP
M/B Asus P5K deluxe wifi/ Proc:Core 2 quad 6600 2.4
RAM Trancend DDR2 667 4gb / GPU Nvdia7900 /
PSU Antex NEOpower 550 /Cabinet: Old Coolermaster wavemaster
HD: WD green 650GBX2 WD Raptor X1 Seagate 7200.8 400GB X1

Use of PC:
Speech recognition softwares
Watching HD/Blueray rips
Ebooks/browsing/MP3
I am a Medical professional not much into games. But good GPU/CPU doesnt hurt.

I want Windows 7 compatibility and DX 11 support as a Dual boot system.

Please suggest me From US budget $1500
1.High end GPU that will fit into my cabinet (6800 ultra fits)

2.Reliable PSU 1000W that will suit my system and for long term use
(My current PC doent do Cold boot half the time, so I keep it running 24/7 guess PSU problem)

3.FAST RAM compatible with Asus P5k deluxe:
I am not sure about RAM from US because of copmatibility issues.
My last Gskill import didnt work too well with mobo.

4.Any WD HD 1TB or more Fast and silent (as wd has warranty)

Optional: From India budget Rs.7500/-
5.Easy to use swapping HDs ect Mid tower cabinet

I was thinking about getting alienware from India for warranty but price looks too high.

I do not wish to change the mobo as I will have to install 100s of softwares again. No OCing. no games. A stable fast PC.

Please reply as soon as possible.

Thank you and warm regards,

I already have q6600

Processor I am thinking about Core 2 Quad Q9550S 2833 MHz 65 W (from INDIA)

Is it worthy upgrade?

Dont know how much qx9650 costs in India or 5000 + black. POST stable OClock is performance good enough to compare with basic core7i

My M/B has PCI express 1.1

GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5870 (from US) US $ 400

Is processor going to be bottleneck or the PCIe 1.1 ?

Corsair because of international warranty

RAM:from US (upto $200)

Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 DIMM Memory Kit OR

Corsair Dominator DHX 4GB DDR2 DIMM Dual channel Memory Kit

PSU for future proof

Corsair HX1000W (US $ 250) , dont think this is available in India.

Please comment on my selection and

Suggest me a 1.Mid tower easy 2 use cabinet to buy from India ( budget Rs 7500) and a CPU cooler from US (US $ 150)

Suggestions are welcome.

The PCIe 1.1 slot will definitely be a bottleneck. The q6600 will do fine.

I don't see the point in getting a hd 5870 if you're not gaming. It will be an awful waste of horse-power.I suggest you get a really good quad-core CPU(core i5/i7) and a high-end mobo with the same budget.Buying a LGA 1156 board with DDR3 will give you more upgrade options in the future. You should wait for for experienced members to suggest specific parts.

As for buying from the US buying corsair parts is definitely a good idea since they have international warranty.Sapphire also claims to have international warranty so you should buy sapphire if you still intend to buy a GPU.

I wouldn't suggest buying things that have more chances of going bad from the US, since warranty will be a PITA. If anything goes wrong, the hardware would be rendered as useless junk at home until you can avail the warranty services.

I'd say, you could go for a processor, keyboard, mouse, mouse-pads.

^^ +1

Warranty is a big issue for products purchased from US.

AFAIK only Intel and AMD provides international warranty.

anyways there isn't great difference in price of proccessor in US.

Sell your old junk(good junk :p) .. Get a decent DELL laptop($1500 will get you an Alienware) .. hook it up to a bigassd LCD Panel and be happy with movies , music etc.

Get an External Storage .. if you feel lacking.

This will keep you comming back to the forum with BSOD/RAM n all kinds of hardware issue.

Recommended for Medical Students/Non-Gamer.

TL;DR; invest $1500 in a good laptop n avoid all hassels. :D

Peace yo.. :p
