@evox:

whats the point of going for a single 400 GB HDD for 9k when he can get 2 x 320 GB = 640 GB for 10k :) .

A dedicated 7.1 sound card, he does not require since he is going for a 2.1 speaker set. The onboad Realtek HD sound should do fine. If he wants better sound, then go for the Audigy Value or Live series. So 9k saved there.

XFX7900GT XXX version was not 24.5k even 5 months back :) . Present prices more like 16~18k.

Super Lanboy is not worth the 5k price tag. It has very little space and everything will look crammed in that cabby especially if you have a lot of stuff to put inside. Its for people who want to keep thier rigs light enough to be carried around.

Why a CRT now when a 20" LCD is available for 20k.

:) :) There is one point though Lord nemesis....Just a few moments back i was in forum bangalore....my office is close to it:bleh:
Well the point was there were some dell monitors on display....the 20 inch and the 24 inch from the size of it..(I guessed)..

In no lcd even worth say 35 to 40k is the colors or the brightness close to that of a crt...I may have bad eyes:bleh: but the pictures always seem a bit dim compared to a say crt even now i seem to find the pic of a 19 inch crt better than lcd

So thank you all. This is my final config :--

Proccy: E6600- 17.5K

RAM: Corsair Value Select 2x1GB DDR2 @667MHz -Rs.13k

Hard Drive: 2 x 320 GB SATA2 Seagate - 10.2k

Dvd writer: LG H10A/N- Rs 2100

Speakers: Altec Lansing MX-5021- Rs. 7500

Graphics card: Leadtek 7900GS Rs.14k

PSU: Antec NeoHE 500W Rs.6k

Genius Ergo: 525 Rs.1.5~1.6k

Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 Rs.950

Ati theatre 550 pro tv tuner

Mobo: Asus P5W DH Deluxe - Rs 14.5k

cabinet: Chieftec-BH02-B-B-B-Cabinet - 3.2k

And finally monitor.I will go either with samsung 997DF or viewsonic 2025. I would prefer viewsonic but i am really worried about dead pixels. All other aspects about the lcd seem good.I guess i will have to take a good hard look and then make a choice.

So this is the config of my final rig.But if you still think something could be better plz feel free to make suggestions.i will be making the pruchase within the next two weeks. So my final question is does anyone here know any good computer shops in trivandrum????

A good sound card's missing from the above config...as for the lcd ask your dealer if you could check it out at his place for dead pixels before getting it. Rest all seems good enough.

Well I have to say my Dell 2007WFP is as bright as my old 17" Samsung 793MB CRT :) . The diff b/w the light of a CRT and LCD is that the CRT light is because of cathode rays striking the CRT coating, producing light particles. The LCD on its own cannot generate that kind of light. so they use an additional lamp. The CRT light can contain particles oter than photons, like the cathode rays themselves escaping form the tube mixed with some others. LCD dosent have that problem and is way better on the eyes.

Just for the record, when I got my Dell, the default brightness was set to 50%. I had to tone it down to 10% which is still good enough for me even for the games. my guess is that the displays you saw must have the brightness turned down to such sane levels. :)

Well, he is going for a 2.1 speaker set. The onboard sound is good enough for him. Whats the use of spending a fortune on a 7.1 card and using a 2.1 set. He can get a card when he wants to go for a 5.1 set. :)
