Agreed on the Xeons and getting into VMs.

However, if OP is going to use it for AI/ML - I highly doubt that the VMs will come into play (unless OP goes for the massive card with support for CUDA to run the AI/ML tools). Recently there are Threadripper builds doing AI/ML jobs (refer the comparison here - https://medium.com/the-mission/why-...computer-is-10x-cheaper-than-aws-b1c91b55ce8c).

If upgrade in future is what you want why not go with ryzens , they have excellent upgrade path better than xeons and Intel's i7 or i9

It is an year old thread my dude.
I also suggested the same to my friend but this is way before new ryzen processors would come into picture.
I also found that the people who contract for these kind of work only shared intel server configuration.
This also true for vendors such as Dell because when I put a query for ryzen configuration he still suggested only Intel parts.
As if it was for me I would rather pick a threadripper configuration.
