Star Citizen - Discussion Thread

Some really awesome news guys.

It now seems that the SC Server for the Asian region will be hosted in Singapore and not Australia! So Indian players will be able to play SC in the PU with 70-110 ping (to Sing) rather than 160-400 to Aus!! :)

Also added a couple of updated videos for the game. As always, try and watch them in Full HD if possible. As always, please remember everything is "in-engine" and not pre-rendered though the PU landing video has been split into 3 parts due to current engine limitations coupled with the fact that "manual" planetary landings are not currently supported.

There is a company called telstra here in australia. it monopolizes the internet. because of it, the internet speeds are pathetic and the customer service is even worse. 90% of the australia is still forced to use adsl with a maximum speed of 20mbps. we get better speeds in hyderabad imo. SC took the right decision hosting the servers in Singapore.

CR replied to the thread about their reason for choosing Sing over Aus for the PU Servers in this region -

"The issue is that we're building our PU server framework on Google Compute and doing a lot of things like dynamically spinning up and down servers on demand. It is possible for us to have a non Google Compute server extension but that will require additional logic and code. So for the early stages (like pre-Star Citizen v1.0 launch) we will probably be limited to places where Google Compute is available. Which is where Singapore came up as I believe the closest Google Compute data server to Australia is based there. If Google sets up a data center locally to Australia then we would enable nodes there. In fact part of the design we are going for is to allow us to spin up and down game servers via Google Compute as geographically co-located as possible - not just limited to the usual suspects like North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. This is the longer term goal but one where you get to harness the true power of "cloud computing" for a better game experience."

This clip has been used in parody for plenty of other games (& other stuff) so it was only a matter of time before SC got the "Downfall" treatment as well. :)
Enjoy -

I have some really good news for those of you who have been "fence sitting" this game.

CIG is having its Anniversary sale.

As part of this sale, they are offering a "Destroyer" class Vessel, namely the Javelin for a PALTRY US$ 2,500/- (Rs.1 LAKH, FIFTY FOUR THOUSAND EACH and no that's NOT a typo :p).

Only 200 ships will be on offer in 4 batches of 50 each over different time zones.

The GOOD news is, that they plan to offer an Aurora (one of the starter ships - I have the same ship FYI) for just $20 thanks to people who will buy the Javelins! In effect, its like a subsidy program where they will subsidize discount packages for new players.

So 200 Javelins sold means there will be 5,000 $20 Aurora game packages on offer for sale to attract new players into the game. At $20 this will be an absolute STEAL IMO. For those interested, look here -

I honestly doubt there will be a CHEAPER way to get into SC anytime in the near future. Will update this post with more info as its forthcoming...

@jc36lect3r
Will post again when the next batch of 2500 Auroras goes live. They sell out really quick because this is an ABSOLUTE STEAL DEAL GUYS.

Its like buying BF5 for $20 and getting so much more. Granted the game is still 2 years away from full release but you will get access to Arena Commander, the BETA -AND- the full game including Squadron 42 plus unrestricted PU access - FREE FOREVER!!!

When I started the post, there were 2475 remaining. When I finished it a few minutes later, it was already down to 1900.

The EXACT same package will cost $60 at launch.

Plz consider buying a copy jc36lect3r.

I want to play co-op with other Indian players... :arghh:

Heh, unlikely in the near future. I already have a time sink in Dota 2, still playing through DAI on which I plan to do multiple playthroughs and looking very closely at Guild Wars 2 the way it's price is falling. But in two years, who knows :)

^ :(
Anyways, CIG sold out -ALL- the 5000 discounted Auroras. There are no more to come. This was such an amazing deal...

Did you buy any of the discounted packs? I bought one even though I already have the Freelancer and Mustang from the AMD promo. Dunno why I keep throwing money at this game lol

Nope I didn't. No moolah. Saving whatever I can to buy a new rig (hopefully) by the SC Beta.

When did you get a new Radeon and which one did you buy?

BTW, I "heard" you melted 2 of your 4 Idris's and bought 3 Jav's instead?!

The "Spinmeister Guild" was already WAY too powerful.

Now you guys will be invincible with your new Idri-Jav fleet... :(

I didn't buy a Radeon. Newegg had this price error where they were selling the promo cards you get with the GPUs for 99 cents. So basically you pay one dollar and get 3 games, one of which was this special AMD livery Mustang package. I got that.

As for powerful fleets, I have a friend who has spent tons of money on the game. He has about 80-90% of all the ships released so far. He's only missing the capital ships and limited stuff like the Scythe. I'm just going to hang out in his hangar and fly his ships around when the game releases :p

Spin if you come across that sort of deal again, PLEASE let me know! :(

As for this "friend" you keep mentioning - COME ON!

EVERYONE knows its your ALT account. ;)

Big week for the game. Arena Commander reached v1.0 (which doesn't mean much of course since it's v1.0 of an alpha). Lots of bugs showing up which might not get squashed before they go on holiday for Christmas.

They put out a new trailer which I believe is a remake of a fanmade one. All ingame assets.

The second starter ship (the Mustang) is now available and playable in the game. They put out a commercial for it as well.

Can't say I'm a big fan of this trailer, but I do think the ship looks better than the Aurora. People who own an Aurora can now freely swap between that and the Mustang using unpaid cross chassis upgrades available in the store.

A few other ships are also available to fly in the game and they've just started adding some social features for multiplayer.

They had a livestream the other day where they talked quite a bit about the game going forward. They also had a limited sale of ships. I believe they put up 200 Idris-P capital ships costing over $1000 on sale and they sold out in minutes, as usual. They also repeated that anniversary starter package sale and put up 5000 of those. Those sold out in about 2 hours. For some reason I bought yet another one of those packages because I have no brains. I'm not really sure what to do with it but if anyone is looking for a cheap $20 copy of Star Citizen, get in touch.

The livestream revealed their next capital ship called the Pegasus

Also that friend I was telling you about who had a ton of ships but no capital ship. Well, he melted down over half of his fleet and then used that to subsidize his purchase of the $5000 space marshal package which includes an Idris-P! So I'm going to be roaming around a capital ship on day one of the game :p

I actually thought the trailer was VERY average and quite below RSI's standards TBH. Glad to hear I'm not alone.

IMO, they could offer a 1000 Idris-P/Javelins and they would ALL get sold out as well. The amount of money people are throwing at this game (including you Spin, with your "Completionist" package and expansive fleet) is just staggering.

I heard a rumor that you bought another package because you wanted your "100th Wingman" to fly escort with your Idris-M & Jav fleets. :D

So I'm going to be roaming around a capital ship on day one of the game :p

All I will say is - :arghh: :banghead:  :meh: :rage: :shifty: :sour:
