Suggest a WiFi AC router with long range signal?

Hi folks,

I am looking to get a new, latest model and VFM wifi router (no modem needed) which supports the latest wifi standards like AC high speeds. Don't need gigabit level wifi speeds but will do.

The main requirement is long range signal distance because I will use this in the corner of the 1st floor of a bungalow which has ground floor and 1st floor, you see what I'm saying? I need the signal to reach diagonally from the 1st floor corner to the bottom floor opposite corner with strong or good signal strength for devices.

Size of the bungalow is approx like a large 4 BHK flat, say around 3000 square feet.

So any advice on what brands, models I should look for? Not interested in the cheaper brands, looking for something solid (like ASUS, DLink, NetGear, Linksys/Cisco, Belkin etc) that will last a few years and is easy to use and configure. Don't need fancy features either.

Thanks!
Vishal

Long range AC routers don't exist!

I have a Netgear R6300 and an Asus RT-N66U. Both give decent range on the N band but are quite average in the AC band. I'd suggest you get whatever is in your budget and then invest in a repeater for those hard to reach corners of your house.

Thanks @indy1811 yeah my devices are all non-AC still, so I guess I will pick one of your models, because I dont (yet) need AC, just the B/G/N will do :)[DOUBLEPOST=1500535148][/DOUBLEPOST]So I've narrowed it down to 2 choices:

Any idea where I can get this device in Pune or online? http://www.belkin.com/in/F9K1113-Belkin/p/P-F9K1113/# ? This is what I want!

Alternatively, if the Belkin is not available, I'll just splurge on this: http://www.amazon.in/dp/B01AK9TC0Y haha totally reckless overkill purchase it will be!

Any reason why you picked that Belkin?

Look for better options here:

Some models may not be available in India but you'll get an idea of what to look out for.

For around 15k, i'd check out one of the following:

http://www.amazon.in/D-Link-DIR-890...ie=UTF8&qid=1500537705&sr=1-8&keywords=router
http://www.amazon.in/Netgear-AC3200...e=UTF8&qid=1500537833&sr=8-8&keywords=netgear

For the highest range possible under 30k this looks like a good bet:

No single router will cover that much area properly with AC and high download/upload speeds. You need to look at Ubiquiti sorta semi pro equipment. I'm looking in the same direction as well.

Yeah I dont care about AC right now, just for future proofing. Will get an extender/repeater later if needed. Thanks guys!

What do you folks think of the Belkin and the TPLink models I posted? Pricey but seem good to me :)

Any reason why you picked that Belkin?

I like the simple single-light based status display for its simplicity - even my parents can figure out whether the "internet is down" or the "airtel 4g link itself is down" (or something like that) haha :)

Sadly I might have to hunt/wait to get the Belkin model for around 15k (MRP) - the TPLink is currently available for 25k so that will be my second option in case I can't procure the Belkin within a few weeks.[DOUBLEPOST=1500540791][/DOUBLEPOST]@indy1811 oh wow great links, thanks! just what I need :) if I dont get the belkin, i'll just get one of the ones you pointed for the 15k range, i guess no point spending more than that much for now. thanks![DOUBLEPOST=1500541574][/DOUBLEPOST]I guess I will just go with the NetGear R7000 (AC1900) nighthawk model for around 10k off amazon :) thanks a lot @indy1811 and @Chaos

Not too sure about the range with the belkin since it has internal antennas. The Netgear R7000 looks good.

Netgear orbi seems to be the best for covering long range but the cheaper option is to get something like R7000 for now flash xwrt then if you still have wifi problem go for something like a powerline adapter/wifi extender.

Why not buy a couple of Ubiquity AC access points?
And if you can get it from US it will be much cheaper and you can buy the entire set.

Nah, dont want extra hassle for getting something like Ubiquity :) too lazy hehe

I guess I will order the R7000 Nighthawk shortly, looks pretty VFM for me even though it's in the Rs 10k range... thanks all !

I got two pieces of the same router for 5k each on sale. Its good but don't expect miracles. As I mentioned a consumer router no matter which one can't do a 3-4bhk indian house properly. There will always be dead zones especially for AC coverage.

Dang! Half price! hehe, I'm too impatient to wait for a potential Sale :)[DOUBLEPOST=1500556394][/DOUBLEPOST]Well I had already placed the order a few moments ago for 10k off amazon for 1 unit. Should reach me by Monday. Can't wait to wifi enable the whole house.

Currently got my Tata Sky STB with a wifi dongle waiting to connect to this :-D Love the gaana and youtube built-in apps on the STB! Also the mostly-free VoD options.
