Video Surgery video capture help please?

if you have proper drivers for your camera and be able to see the video on the screen you should be able to record it using open broadcaster software. once you have the uncompressed video as a big file, you should be able to encode it to H264 overnight and make smaller files with the same quality. so, are you able to connect the video source to a computer and watch the video on screen?

scratch that, open broadcaster allows on the fly encoding to H264 and also individual audio inputs. that means you should be able combine multiple inputs to create a video. something like a camera to your face, a Sony AS100V on a head band to record what you are seeing and then that camera which goes inside the anus.

btw, 1080 50I means the screen resolution is 1080 (1920X1080) and at 50 frames per second and "I" means interlaced. Interlaced means the camera in the first cycle reports even horizontal lines of the picture, and then the odd horizontal lines in the next cycle. this happens 50 times over a second. if you want to convert it to 1080p you should deinterlace the video before recording. improper deinterlacing gives jagged lines at the edges. like small steps. almost every software supports deinterlacing.

Earlier I created thread to check feasibility to capture videos directly on PC without any card. The camera is stryker 3 chip camera and it has 2 DVI output.
BTW What is the price for HD capture card.

http://support.olympus-imaging.com/ov3download/index/ site says there are windows drivers for this camera. so you should be able to record it using open broadcaster and a decently powerful pc which can handle on the fly encoding. My guess, any pc above i5 should be able to do it. on the other hand even if is not, just capture the raw video and then encode it later using something like a "handbrake" software.

Btw, the hardware that you are planning to buy does nothing but encode the raw video to h264 on the fly using the onboard chipset.

^If you are able to connect the camera to pc and see the live view on screen you dont need recorder.

Bummer... Usually I connect my sony cameras to the pc using usb tether or over wifi network to watch live streams and then record that video. in your case you have to connect your otv-s190 to pc. from what I understand from the spec sheet(http://img.medical.olympus-global.com/common/pdf/products/otv-s190/otv-s190.pdf) it only has dvi and anologue output. so yeah, you need a capture card (or any card that accepts video "input")

Now, the game capture card that you mentioned will not work. because the otv-s190 has analog and dvi output. which means you will have to also buy a dvi to hdmi converter. then you have to connect this card to your pc and then record using obs or the software provided by this card.

if I were you, i would buy from a reputed brand like like blackmagic design https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/in/products/decklink
(DeckLink Mini Recorder) because you dont want surprises from badly written and untested drivers here. while you are operating and hoping that everything is properly being recorded, the system should not crash on you right?

Hope that helps.

If your HD Camera has HDMI Output then the Elgato should be OK. Seems like the Elgato does not have a DC power input. Which could mean the HDMI cable and your HD Camera's HDMI output should be able to provide the required power for the Elgato. You might want to check that.

Another option is http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods_hd-recorders.html. The HD-PVR series from Hauppauge carry high reputation. Though the HD PVR2 costs 20K on Amazon.in, you can place the order on their Singapore site and get it via DHL + customs at a cheaper price.

DVI to HDMI does not require a converter, just a cable. AFAIK, DVI is the same as HDMI without the audio. These cables are inexpensive and I already have a couple.

The Elgato is [I think] powered by the USB cable that connects it to the computer.

So, to revive an old thread, that Elgato has been one of the best devices I have used. Rock solid on a Mac at least. Was re searching Elgato to buy another one, and came across this thread.

After 4 years having some issue with th thru HDMI. Works with 24" monitors but not with larger ones. Wonder why? Any ideas? I am thinking of buying another to see if it is an Elgato issue.

HDMI has versions. If you get the latest hdmi cable that supports 4K hdr it should not have problems. I think it’s hdmi 2.0 or something can’t remember.
