SwiftKey today announced a pretty significant update to its Android keyboard application, focusing on a number of back-end improvements.

The keyboard now appears on screen between 15 percent and 20 percent faster, SwiftKey writes in a blog post. It'll then disappear between 20 percent and 30 percent faster, and switching between fields has seen performance improvements of up to 50 percent. The actual act of typing has gotten a bit of a tune-up as well, seeing improvements between 10 percent and 18 percent.

"This is the big performance update that I think people have been really waiting for," SwiftKey CMO Joe Braidwood told Android Central.

In addition, SwiftKey has added 11 new Indian languages and one for Sri Lanka. They include: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali and Sinhala. That makes 81 languages supported by the keyboard, which has been installed more than 10 million times in Google Play alone and was introduced on iOS earlier this year
