This is the prices I am getting, Asus 5770 cucore - 7200, Sapphire 6770 - 7150, Sapphire 6790 - 8300. Asus is the only 5770 I could find in 3 places in laminton road, MSI hawk and normal version is completely out of stock here.

DarkAngel - you got a great guide going here, what's the recommendation? It seems itdepot may be the only one online to have the msi hawk for 7800 but its not confirmed. Go for 6770 Sapphire at 7150 or spring a bit more for the 6790 Saphire at 8300?

^Prices, configs already updated for June. (Not much of changes since not many new launches) New guide once Llanos come out :)

what is the mobo equivalent of the Gigabyte 740G/760G for intel. that is, instead of X2 250 + 760G i want a SB pentium + h61 mobo.

available right now or in the next 2 - 3 weeks. assuming SB pentiums will be available by then.

Does the Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 have an ide connector? Asking coz I saw Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P which does not have ide but same model has ide connector in gigabyte site as well as other online sites.

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-MA78LMT-S2 (rev. 3.x) -> Spec sheet says so on Giga website.

Buy Gigabyte | Gigabyte motherboard in India | Gigabyte GA MA78LMT S2 Motherboard (Copy from Giga site)

You can check them on the box right?

Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P Rev1.0, 2.3 has IDE ports according to Giga website. 3.0 and 3.1 doesnt have it. The older revs use 3+1 power phase revisions whereas the 3.0 and 3.1 uses 4+1 power phase design.

Recommended graphic card and motherboard seem to be in short supply. Only the Sapphire 6770 seems to be available. The MSI H67 MA E35 seems to have done the vanishing act, have been trying to source it for the last 4-5 days in Mumbai. All the usual folks are out of stock and offering the Intel DH67A instead at 5.2k.

The Gigabyte H67 alternative is 5.2k but doesn't have USB 3.0. The one which has is 7.4k. The Asus H67 is around 6.2k and has USB 3.0. Intel has 2 H67 boards, one with a couple more pci slots I think at 6.5k. The intel boards also have the ALC 892 audio codec which is supposed to be better than the ALC 887 on the budget Asus, MSI and Gigabyte boards. Plus the Intel boards have 4 ram slots as opposed to 2 on the budget boards.

Dark Angel - what is your recommendation on this, are there any other alternatives, and what do you make of the Intel h67

Stick to the Intel DH67BL B3~5.1k board. Anyways there is no OCing with H67. So there goes the biggest weakness of Intel boards. Decent specs for the price on offer.

Newegg review says seven 5 stars and three 1 star rating among 10 ratings. All 1 star ratings are ones that got the older revisions and botched up replacement mobos. Others say its pretty stable and some using it even with the 2500K (For the faster GPU!)

Thats why i have mentioned under the recommendation that the HD6770 is replacing the HD5770. 7k-7.2k is decent pricing for a HD6770.

Has the lowered prices for RAM been reflected with any of the online sellers? smc for eg still has corsair xms3 4gb for 2.3k

I think what this thread fails to achieve is present a config thats tailored for specific needs, for e.g.

Websurfer, Casual Gamer, Gamer, Hard Core Gamer, VMWare, CPU Crunching etc.

What I mean by this is, someone who wants to run VMWare and has lots of CPU intensive apps does not need to spend 1.42 lakhs to get a Core i7 config, which in this case makes sense. For e.g. I can bet that for this user you can build a rig with Core i7 under 40k makes most sense but someone reading this thread would probably end up believing that Core i7 rig costs upward of 1.4 lakh. For e.g. my Core i7 config:

Config 1 Core i7 Casual Gamer/HTPC/VMWare PC:

Core i7 2600 - 13500
Asus P8H67 - 7200
RAM Corsai Vengenace 1600hz 2*4gb - 4600
PSU Corsair 420/CM Ext 600 watts - 3000
Cabinet any half way decent - 2500
============================
Total: 28500
============================

^^ This configuration is for someone who does not want to O.C. but needs VMware, HTPC, casual gaming etc. The P8H series offers oboard GPU but no OC abilities. Also Core i7 2600 has more Virtualization features (if running ESX) than i7 2600k.

For someone who wants better onboard graphics, you can go for Core i7 2600k with the above configuration. The 2600k has a better igp, please note above board wont allow you to OC.

If you require a slightly better configuration with ability to OC, I would suggest the following configuration:

Core i7 2600k - 15500
Asus P8P67 - 10800 (I had a requirement for this board @3 PCI/ u r free to choose different)
Graphic - ATI 5450* (Casual Gaming)<ATI 6570 < ATI 6850 - 2.2k/4k/8.8k
PSU - Corsair 500cx -3000
RAM Cors Ven 1600 2 *4gb - 4600
Case - * as per choice - 2500
========================
Total: 38600
========================

Coming to peripherals, there is no such thing as 1 size fits all. Some like music, some like wirelesss desktop, some like gaming mouse. Also investing in these items is more cost effective than investing in CPU/Mobo/RAM/Graphic as these items have longer longevity. I have the following in my various setups and prices are listed below. You can obviously go lower/higher depending on budget and need:

Keyboard/Mouse Wireless Combo- Logitech MK 710 - 4k IIRC
Speakers: Logitech Z623 - 7.5k
Logitech Z5500 - 14.5k
LCD 24 " - > 10k

So all in all a good Core i7 rig with half way decent graphic card can be built for less than 70k and is highly recommended for those running CPU intensive apps.

In the Home Theater Enthusiast HTPC config saw a plain tv tuner instead of a hd ready one.
Instead of Hauppauge PVR 150 + MCE Remote I recommend to use Hauppauge Colossus which is for around USD140 (around 8-9K after importing) on Amazon. It is far better that the PVR 150 in terms of hardware and has an onboard 1080i hd decoder too. After spending huge amount on a full hd tv, being let down by an old tuner is the last anyone would want.

Product comparison between the two as from Hauppauge site.
Specification | Hauppauge PVR150 | Hauppauge Colossus 01414
Hardware Encoder|MPEG-1/2 |H.264 AVCHD
