Nice Post..

But what I suggest is Home Theater Enthusiast would like to have 5.1 Sound setup instead of 2.1

and you missed to mention the price of "TV Tuner: Hauppauge PVR 150 + MCE Remote"

Good guide, Asus M2N68-AM PLUS is great board@2.3k supporting 45nm AMD quads and AM3 CPU with Nvidia 7025 graphics on board.

i guess if u say 24/7 download rig..atleast hdd shd be 500giga...though it might cross 15k budget..but still

For everything else thumbs up...

Also i would luv to see the new zotac ion system somewhere for peeps who are just interested in surfing and downloading..i guess in 30-40k range

honestly , this is really disappointing.

1. Can't we have a descent gaming pc within a budget of 40k ?

2. where the hell intel c2d proccy gone ?

3. where are midrange and mainstream ATI graphics card ?

I think sidhupunjab is heavily burdened by his new additional duty

IMO, there should be a configuration between 25K and 42K for us lesser morons, because this budget slot is most suited for newbies. :)

1. Read Read Read :cool2:
2. :S Why U wanna buy C2D when you can unlock AMD X2s, quad @ 5k. ;) Then compare AMD platform budget mobo vs Intel budget mobo, see features differance.
3. Pricing and availability, 260/275 pricing is way better than 4870/4890. 4770 has availability issues.

ya guide this time is not that sensible , for 25k , depending on onboard graphics for gaming , they cant even run 5 fps  , amd p2 is good but considering w hole rig at 25k , gpu power is more important , E5200 + dedicated gpu like 9500gt will be more sensible

At 42k , even though u can get a quad by unlocking , still will with 9800gt can it run games at full hd ? :p , cheaper combo + powerful gpu is needed .

Not all wanna undergo oc and unlocking more cores..
22" lcd with 9800gt??..y not a 19"/20" and a 4850??..

welcome change SidhuPunjab. "General Purpose Home Machine + Casual Gamer (Budget 28k)" - this is the segment where more sells will happen, considering recession time. Also as PC Gaming is tagged as "cheap gaming platform" as compared to console counterpart - a good gaming rig with 19" monitor with better graphics card will and less of OC stuff will be more appealing for a newbie who want to setup a descent gaming setup. There will be another 10k of investment - if the person want to go for legit OS and couple of games. Don't we should encourage that ? We can include the cost of OS and two-three VFM games (orange box,GTA IV)- which can be titled as "New Comer Gaming setup" or something like that.

I think this guide lacks a bit of options for low end... Eventhough for basic needs a sempron would suffice i think most home users have a budget of around 20k and more than 85% of PCs sold dont have discrete GPUs.... So i think a config like this for 20-21k is needed for the home user who uses the PC for basic entertainment, office and browsing... This is just a merger of the 15k and the 28 k config. But i just felt 20k is a crucial price point. So just add such a config to make the guide more complete :)

Processor: Intel E5200 - 3.3k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31-S2L - 2.5k
RAM: Transcend 2GB DDR2 800 MHz - 1k
GPU: Onboard N.A.

Monitor: Dell S1909 - ~6.5k
Keyboard: Samsung Pleomax - .2k
Mouse: Logitech Optical - .4k
