Nicely compiled buying guide karthi.
Thanks bro :)

Nice effort there! But I would have liked to see a little more respect for Core i3 530 and Core i5 750.

Intel's i3 530 is particularly interesting because it ties with Athlon X4 6XX series, overclocks better and do so by running cooler and consuming less power (very important for people who are casual gamers and not encoding videos all the time) .

It's only disadvantage is in multi-threaded applications and around Rs 2,500 extra money (total system cost ). But I believe with HT, even the multi-threaded argument is not as strong as it is made out to be.

As you said the i-530 was tempting but decided to go with the PhenomII 555BE for its unlocking potential esp. as in the initial batches. if the gamble pays off then its a free 3000rs worth upgrade :)

As for the i-5 750 decided to go with the phenom and save few bucks and nvest in on the GPU as this is more of a gaming rig.

Great guide : )
No SSD in the ultra high end rig.? :p

+1 for the i3 being a very strong contender, not in the least thanks to its admirable overall power efficiency and overclocking potential.

A few Xeon CPU options would've been sweet as well.

Thought that SSD's are not that mature to be considered esp. when by the year end we can expect double the capacity drives for the same price and better quality.
Accept that SSD will do nice for that rig as i have seen how quickly the PC boots like it is a fresh install everytime :) One can add SSD if they wanna be amazed.

Was not able to get prices of Xeons from online store price lists :(

Think there is a mistake in Phenom II X2 555 price(10.5k). Its more than double the market price.

EDIT: oops... saw that its combo price. Individual price would have helped I think.

ram rates have increased

its 2.8k for 2 gb kingston/transcend inc. vat

Guess it went up in the last 2-3 days. And its 2600rs for 2GB Kingston DDR3 1333MHz in mediahome website. Will update prices after a week or so if this pricing remains stable.

Will have to check with other dealers for their offers before updating it here.

Nice work Dark Angel. Keep it up :)

btw I agree with your suggestion on 1 TB WD with 5 yrs of warranty, but Seagate 7200.12 1TB beats WD 1TB in performance. so it's better for people going for performance rigs. They won't be using those HDDs for their new rigs after 3yrs from now.

Any particular reason why u have chosen Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H for the Home Theatre enthusiast instead of Biostar TA785G3 which is 2k cheaper?

SSD makes sense. But why a Xeon for a gaming rig ?

AFAIK Xeon's are primarily for server applications enabled mostly for virtualization and applications enabled for multi-threading.

Better binned server grade silicon that will likely OC better at lower voltage with the same base architecture as the desktop counterparts.
1156 = X3440 (HT for just a bit more than the i5 750)
1366 = W3520
