@Karthi007. Yes the Seagate 7200.12 may be better but what I was trying to say was keeping the fact that performance is the same, Rs.200 more or so for WD makes sense as they provide courier pickup and drop off without extra cost if there's an issue with their drives.

I've experienced it myself. In fact I got a 320GB instead of my 250GB. It's better than going to the damn service centre and standing in the hot queue for hrs just to get an RMA and then return again. It's crazy!

^^sorry typo. Corrected the same in the post.
@AILUG- Usually Proccy, mobo, RAM have a 3-year warranty and the HDD has a 5 yr warranty. Keyboard, mouse has one yr warranty.
@nikrusty. The 7200.12 series is much better the 7200.11 series of the seagate. Yes u can go for the WD ones for 200rs more but the seagate is a bit chepaer and not much a difference between the two.

Hello there,
Thank you for the fantastic reviews!

What do you think about the following configuration -

Athlon II X2 250 - 3.5k
Biostar A785GE - 3.5k
RAM - 2GB Kingston - 2k
Cabinet - Zebronics Bijli - 1.4k
FSP Saga 350w - 1.5k
Samsung 2033 - 6.5k

I have been suggested the above and just wanted your opinion on it.
The above config is very close to your general purpose home PC recommendation above.

Karthik, I am planning to buy a pc tomorrow from Nehru Place. Don't mean to rush you but please get back soon.

Thank you in anticipation!

Very good VFM config:) BTW what is the purpose of the PC. Not much of a performance boost between AthlonIIX2 240~2.85k and AthlonII X2 250~3.3k.
You can consider the AthlonII X3 425(2.7GHz, 3 cores)~3.65k. For just few extra bucks you can get a extra core which will come in handy with due course of time :D And get the SAGAII PSU. Its newer one and is also better then SAGA

Dear Karthik

Will this monitor show full HD or I should go for the P series ?

Thanks

Sugata

As its just blue ray playback that you need even a ATI HD4650 512MB DDR2 ~3k will do the job :) For the monitor consider the Samsung P2250 - 8550/-
SyncMaster? 54.61cm (21.5) wide screen monitor 2033SW - Desktop Monitior - Monitor | SAMSUNG
21.5" wide high definition LCD monitor P2250 - LCD Monitor - Monitor | SAMSUNG
The 2033SW has a 1600*900 and the P2250 has a 1920*1080 resolution. So get the P2250 if you need a full HD playback :)

If on a tight budget get the Benq G2220HD - 7900/-
BenQ India - Computing

Dear Karthik,
Thank you for that quick reply. Well, all I am looking for is a basic home PC with some gaming capability as well. So, do you think AthlonIIX2 240 would suffice?

Karthik, I had initially planned to stick to a budget of 18000. However, since I wanted a system that can be upgraded easily in the near future, I was suggested the following config -

Athlon II X2 250 - 3.5k
Biostar A785GE - 3.5k
RAM - 2GB Kingston - 2k
Cabinet - Zebronics Bijli - 1.4k
FSP Saga 350w - 1.5k
Samsung 2033 - 6.5k

Any other tips to bring down the cost?
Also please help me decide between Samsung 2033 and Dell 19"W Monitor E1910.

If you need gaming capability then the GPU is more important than anything else. The AthlonII X2 240 is a 2.8GHz proccy against the 3 GHz AhlonII X2 250. But the Athlon II X2 sells for 2.8-2.9k :)
So you can invest the 500rs in the motherboard. Get the Biostar TA785GE~4k. It has better build quality and more importantly a 128MB sideport memory which gives a performance boost of 10-15% in graphics intensive apps :)
For the monitor as it is a budget home PC a Dell E1910 IN Widescreen LCD - 5925/- is more than enough. You can save a 600rs~ by opting for this :) If you are going to watch more 1080p content i would suggest get the Benq G2220HD ~ 7.9k. Its a VFM HD monitor.
The Dell E1910 In has a 1366*768 resolution so for anything upto 720p it should do fine.

Hello Karthik,
I need your expertise once again. Due to unavoidable circumstances, I will have to bring the cost down to 17,500. Karthik, I'm sorry to bother you a second time but I simply fear going to Nehru Place and buy a pc on the 'advice' of the vendors there.

Deducting the price of the LCD you suggested ie Dell E1910 IN - Rs.5925 - we are left with 11,500 for the following -

1. Processor
2. Motherboard
3. RAM
4. Hard Disk
5. DVD Drive
6. Cabinet and power supply
7. UPS
8. Keyboard and mouse

(I do not require speakers, webcam or any other accessory, just the above.)

This time around I have no expectations [can't afford them:mad:], just a decent home pc.
Karthik, dig into your magic hat and give me a config.

(If possible, let the config be such that I could attach a graphics card later)

We are excited about Windows 7 and would like to use it on the above system.
If you deem it okay, you could also suggest me a smaller LCD.

Karthik, the next time you come to Delhi you'll have a treat waiting for you [I mean it, my intention is not simply to butter, not entirely that is :)]
