With the Sandy Bridge chipset issues there is not much change in the processor recommedation. But after seeing what the SB is capable of it is very hard to recommend anything else in that price range. So those who have a budget of 50k+ and looking to spend 10k or more on ur CPU's hold on tight and u will get a great upgrade via SB :D

So the guide has been tweaked with new price update, recommendation based on availabilty and new GPUs in the market

  • If you have a couple of thousands more to spend then opt for the PhenomII X4 955BE ~ 6.25k
  • The intel alternative is also an equally good option with i-3 530 and i-3 540.
  • It also brings in more overclock headroom and lowered power consumption.
  • The Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H is a excellent ATX board and has 8 SATA ports at right angles :D It addresses the short comings of the smaller 880GMA sibling of SATA ports getting blocked due to a long GFX

I have sticked to certain brands for certain products. These are the reasons for it.

Great job DarkAngel. It's surprising how rapidly ram prices have dropped. 3600/- for a 4gb kit is amazing. That 40k medium gaming rig in particular (maybe with a 6850 instead) would be the perfect price/performance gaming pc for alot of users.

Gr8 job!!, BTW any particular reason to include Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 with 245, what about ASUS M4A78LT-M LE..?(I think Asus is 200 bucks costlier than GB) Thanks in advance.

very nice work

but why you have included only 500 gb HDD in all rigs below 50k because 1tb costs only 900~1000 extra ?

Brilliant... hdd and ram prices have dropped quite a lot... just a suggestion in the Med End Gaming Rig (Budget 49k)... proccy change to 955BE would enable much better overclocking as it is unlocked it must only be abt 1k more... worth it for gamers :D

I want to make a small correction Dark Angel, in the above config, you have mentioned this GB board GA-MA74GMT-S2. This board is based on 740G platform and not 760 so it doesn't have ATI 3000 integrated GPU. but has HD 2100(DX9 base). See here
Can you confirm?

Nice guide as usual darkangel ! :D but not a single X6 rig ? :S By the way a friend of mine is building a rig for heavy video editing purposes and needs about 12-24 GB of RAM with raw processing power . I was wondering if the X6 will be a better option for him compared to the core i5 760 ? Even he himself wants to stick to AMD for some reasons .

Faheem: Rahul (Stormblast) feels X6 is better for heavy video editing and 3d modelling use, he has i7's and X6's.

Good guide.

A couple of typos though. Budget 26k and budget 34k PCs have 'AMD Athlon II X2 440' instead of 'AMD Athlon II X3 440'.

Great Guide @darkangel

General Purpose Office Machine + 24/7 Downloading(Budget 14k)

Why not make CPU as Sempron 145, its around Rs.1750, better overclocker & C3 stepping makes it more VFM than 140
