off Topic

I recently (12-Apr) bought AMD Athlon II X3 440 (Rs.3300) + Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H (Rs.4300) + Corsair 2GB DDRIII 1333MHz VS2GB1333D3 G (Rs.1050/1200) from lamington road.

Q:

I wonder what is idle CPU Temperature ? & fan speed ?

I found w/o doing any oc Just running as is i found my CPU temperature is 55 deg C @ 6250 rpm. Very Noisy.

No.s are from BIOS as well from HW monitor. mostly identical.

Don't think ok ?

or should dump stock cooler & go for something else ... Any Suggestion ..

Also put up a thread in CPU+Mobo section or PM l33t. Lots of people have the same combo in TE and they can chip in with their temps.

Good Read Derk Angle.

It says 25 deg idle temp for X3 440 i am having 55

Seems dangerous ?

what say ?
Something fishy,But not unusual, I run at 3.5GHz, stock HS+F Load temps touch 51-52, Idles out at about 37-40.

Here's what happened to my friend, I unlocked his 4th core and suddenly the temps shoot up to 50-55 C , I put the same chip in my motherboard, the temps were fine, sometimes when you are in a hurry (Especially with the UD2H) while unlocking, the sensors might really get angry (I hope you are still tri-core, dont mess with that)

1Question : Were the temperatures at 50-55 degrees after you played a game / Ran a search/prime tests or anything of that nature which might put the CPU under a bit of stress ? Also, How well ventilated is the cabinet ? Since the HSF is a little too small (IMO) it needs good intake and exhaust fans. That could one of the reasons too.

Here are the possibilities-What you could try :

1. BIOS might have gone stale - Try resetting the CMOS

2. HWMonitor+UD2H is not quite a combo actually - Get CoreTemp or better yet check the temps from the BIOS (If its still high reset bios try again)

3.The previous 2 should work, if they dont, try reseating the HS+F, after re-TIMing it.

If it doesnt work out, please post in the CPU and Mobo corner, I'll+Other more experienced members would love to help you out :)

It said 25C above ambient. So if room temp is 20 proccy is 45. If 25 the 50.

Bhai log update this thread with new sandy bridge processors
Will put up new guide by weekend. Little busy with office work and also was waiting a bit for more mobo options and availability.

Hey guys,
I know this isnt probably the perfect thread for this but I dont think my query is worth creating a new thread.

Simple question. I want to connect my PC to my LCD tv. TV is about 10+ meters away. I am going to pick up a 15 meter VGA cable tomorrow from Nehru place. Is there anything I should know? I have heard VGA degrades quality over distance. Is 15 meters too much?

Is there a brand I should look for or just any cable will do?

I could also go with HDMI and get a DVI - HDMI converter but I am guessing 15 meter HDMI would be a LOT more expensive. Dont wanna spend more than 1000 bucks or so.

Thanks.

Does your TV have HDMI port? If yes then buy HDMI cable instead.... :)

And BTW which motherboard and GPU do you have?

Yeah TV has an HDMI port. But again, HDMI would be expensive. Plus I am not sure how well an HDMI-DVI converter would work.

Gigabyte mobo. Nvidia 250GTS GPU.

HDMI-DVI works perfectly. VGA is analog; HDMI/DVI is digital. Youl will avoid two A2D and D2A conversions(one at motherboard and one in HDTV). So never buy a VGA cable. VGA is outdated!
