The health advocate who faked cancer

And how it is now heavily used in politics. Both Indian (NaMo/RaGa) and in world politics (Trump).

Haha, i was gonna mention that but didn't wanna start 'politics' again :p

It's fiction, but both Homeland and House of Cards covered social media political manipulation. Both overshadowed by real life Trump though...

Attention whoring is not an uncommon thing. I would be rich if I get a rupee every time somebody lies on the internet for attention This monster on the other hand was not just attention whoring. She misled and encouraged cancer patients into giving up conventional treatments in favor of organic food and snake oil treatments. When a family with a 10 year old kid with brain cancer got in touch with her, she got close to them and probed them for information just so she could use it for her own faking. She frigging wrote books and profited of it. Now, when she got caught, she is playing the victim and has the audacity to blame the people who fell for her stories, for causing her mental anguish because she cheated them.

Cancer is one of those diseases that is not always fatal in all its forms and can be treated if medical attention is provided in time. Delay it and it will spread and manifest into a condition that is incurable and terminal. Who knows how many treatable cancer patients went to the grave because of her. She may not have brain cancer, but her entire self is a cancer.

Heard of the great Threatin?

Nope, but looks like a really interesting read. Will check it out. Just when you think things can't get crazier...

Heard of the book "The Secret"?

The author basically said you can do anything just by believing. Using your will and mind, or what people call "positive thinking". Not even snake oil. Plenty of pseudo-science. I personally know many people who believe the philosophy. She reached huge levels of fame and popularity primarily by the endorsement of Oprah Winfrey.

But when a lady with breast cancer contacted Oprah saying she was going to stop medical treatment, Oprah was quick to try to dissuade her. Lady died later.

Because common sense is not so common. You just need to see how anti-vaxers behave and the logic (or lack of) they use. They are not content with exposing their own children to preventable diseases. They go to any lengths to and make up stories to convince and dupe others. In addition, some people are just eagerly waiting for someone to take them for a ride.
